Split Platform
A split platform is a station that has a platform for each track, split onto two or more levels. This configuration allows a narrower station plan (or footprint) horizontally, at the expense of a deeper (or higher) vertical elevation, because sets of tracks and platforms are stacked above each other. Where two rails lines cross or run parallel for a time, split platforms are sometimes used in a hybrid arrangement that allows for convenient cross-platform interchange between trains running in the same general direction. Reasons for usage On the London Underground, to minimise the risk of subsidence, the tunnel alignments largely followed the roads on the surface and avoided passing under buildings. Companhia do Metropolitano de São Paulo (CMSP) is a Brazilian mixed economy company, based in São Paulo, which most of its investments belong to the Government of the State of São Paulo. Line 3 (Red) ( pt, Linha 3–Vermelha) is one of the six lines that make up the São Paulo Metro and one of the thirteen lines that make up the Metropolitan Rail Transportation Network. It runs between Palmeiras-Barra Funda and Corinthians-Itaquera. It was formerly called the East-West Line. Line 3 is the busiest in the system. History This line, initially called the ''East-West line'', was only planned to be long, connecting the Casa Verde and Vila Maria districts of São Paulo, passing through the center of Barra Funda, Sé, and Tatuapé, and be completely underground. But after a lengthy debate, it was decided that it would be constructed on the surface, taking advantage of the old Rede Ferroviária Federal train bed and sharing of its lines—a move that prevented many expropriations. The São Paulo Metro ( pt, Metrô de São Paulo, ), commonly called the ''Metrô'' () is one of the urban railways that serves the city of São Paulo, alongside the São Paulo Metropolitan Trains Company (CPTM), forming the largest metropolitan rail transport network of Latin America. The six lines in the metro system operate on of route, serving 91 stations. The metro system carries about 5,300,000 passengers a day. Metro itself is far from covering the entire urban area in the city of São Paulo and only runs within the city limits.
