Marco Polo Fest
Marco Polo Fest ( hr, Marko Polo Fest) is a Croatian pop music and wine 2-day festival held on the island of Korčula since 1996. The festival was organised to celebrate and honor the 700th anniversary of the merchant traveler Marco Polo. Korčula
Korčula (, it, Curzola) is a Croatian island in the Adriatic Sea. It has an area of , is long and on average wide, and lies just off the Dalmatian coast. Its 15,522 inhabitants (2011) make it the second most populous Adriatic island after Krk. The population are almost entirely ethnic Croats (95.74%). The island is twinned with Rothesay in Scotland. Marco Polo (, , ; 8 January 1324) was a Venetian merchant, explorer and writer who travelled through Asia along the Silk Road between 1271 and 1295. His travels are recorded in ''The Travels of Marco Polo'' (also known as ''Book of the Marvels of the World '' and ''Il Milione'', ), a book that described to Europeans the then mysterious culture and inner workings of the Eastern world, including the wealth and great size of the Mongol Empire and China in the Yuan Dynasty, giving their first comprehensive look into China, Persia, India, Japan and other Asian cities and countries. Vinko Coce
Vinko Coce (22 December 1954 – 27 October 2013) was a prominent Croatian opera and pop singer. Biography Coce was born in Trogir and joined the Klapa ''Trogir'' in 1972. Between 1983 and 1988, he was a tenor in the mixed choir of the Croatian National Theatre in Split. He started a solo singing career in 1991, during which he won the Grand Prix at the Split Festival with the song "Sićaš li se, Lungomare". Coce also won a Porin with the Klapa ''Trogir''. Coce died on 27 October 2013 at Split Hospital after a lengthy undisclosed illness. He was 58. Alen Vitasović
Alen Vitasović (born 5 July 1968) is a Croatian pop singer and songwriter. Born in Pula, many of his songs are about his native Istria and mostly written in Chakavian dialect. Vitasović began his music career early, learning how to play the harmonica at the age of five, and by twelve he was singing in bands, mainly in the tourist regions around Istria. After finishing music school in Pula, where he learned to play the piano and saxophone, he continued to play in bands across Croatia and Slovenia, until he was discovered while working at Radio HR Pula in the early 1990s. In 1993, Vitasović released his first single and continued to tour all over Croatia, making a name for himself. Vitasović continued with his success, winning numerous festivals and awards throughout Croatia. In 1995, he was nominated for five Porin music awards, and was also the winner of the festivals in Split, Zadar, Pula, Vodice, and Korčula. Tereza Kesovija
Tereza Ana Kesovija (; born 3 October 1938) is an internationally acclaimed Croatian recording artist. She was one of the most recognizable figures on the music scene in former Yugoslavia, and is renowned for her wide vocal range and operatic style. She also had a successful career in France. She has held many concerts around the world, being one of the few Yugoslav musicians to have sold out shows in The Royal Albert Hall, L'Olympia and Carnegie Hall. Early life Kesovija was born in Dubrovnik and grew up in Konavle and Dubrovnik, where she got her early music education. She won a federal young musicians competition in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
