Marco Betta
Marco Betta (born 25 July 1964) is an Italian composer. Biography Marco Betta, author of opera, film score, orchestral and chamber music, has studied composition at the ''Conservatorio di Palermo'' with Eliodoro Sollima. Afterwards, he improved his studies with Armando Gentilucci and Salvatore Sciarrino. He made his debut in 1982 at the ''Festival Spaziomusica'' of Cagliari, thenceforth his compositions are regularly performed in the main Italian and European institutions. His musical language merges old Sicilian cultures with the main techniques of the contemporary music, in particular the minimalism and the neotonality genres. Between 1994 and 2002, he was artistic director of the Teatro Massimo, working on the project for the reopening of the theatre, that happened after 23 years on 12 May 1997, with a concert of the theatre choir conducted by Franco Mannino and the Berliner Philharmoniker Orchestra conducted by Claudio Abbado. The Teatro Massimo Vittorio Emanuele is an opera house and opera company located on the Piazza Verdi in Palermo, Sicily. It was dedicated to King Victor Emanuel II. The Teatro Filarmonico is the main opera theater in Verona, Italy, and is one of the leading opera houses in Europe. The Teatro Filarmonico is property of the Accademia Filarmonica di Verona. Having been built in 1716, and later rebuilt after a fire of January 21, 1749, and again after the allied bombing of February 23, 1945. History Verona needed an opera house, so the Accademia Filarmonica di Verona decided in the early 18th century to build a theatre worthy and large. Work began in 1716 and lasted 13 years. Andrea Calogero Camilleri (; 6 September 1925 – 17 July 2019) was an Italian writer. Biography Originally from Porto Empedocle, Girgenti, Sicily, Camilleri began university studies in the Faculty of Literature at the University of Palermo, but did not complete his degree; during that time he published poems and short stories. Sonzogno
Edoardo Sonzogno (21 April 1836 – 14 March 1920) was an Italian publisher. A native of Milan, Sonzogno was the son of a businessman who owned a printing plant and bookstore. When he inherited the business upon his father's death he set about turning it into a publishing house, Casa Sonzogno, which opened in 1874. The company specialized in producing cheap editions of early Italian music, and became celebrated for its one-act opera contest, which began in 1883. Among the participants was Giacomo Puccini with ''Le Villi'' (1883) - who, in fact, did not win so that the opera was taken over by Giulio Ricordi, the competitor of Sonzogno.
