Marcia L. Washington is an American politician from the state of Nevada. A Democrat, Washington represented the 4th district of the Nevada Senate, covering parts of Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, and Sunrise Manor, from 2019 until 2020. Career Prior to serving in the State Senate, Washington worked in the state and Clark County government, including as Clark County fire inspector, in the Clark County School District, and on the Nevada Board of Education. Electoral history In 2019, following the resignation of 4th district incumbent Kelvin Atkinson over corruption charges, Washington was chosen by the Clark County Commission from a field of 11 candidates to fill his seat, beating out more prominent contenders such as Assemblywoman Dina Neal. Washington had been endorsed by the Senate Democratic Caucus and the politically powerful Culinary Local 226. Sunrise Manor is a census-designated place in Clark County, Nevada, United States, located on the western base of Frenchman Mountain, east of Las Vegas. The population was 205,618 at the 2020 census. Culinary Workers Union
The Culinary Workers Union, UNITE HERE Local 226 is a local union affiliated with UNITE HERE which operates in the Las Vegas metropolitan area of Nevada. Members include a variety of occupations organized along craft lines working in restaurants, hotels and laundries, in the casinos in the Las Vegas metropolitan area and Reno, as well as Harry Reid International Airport and Valley Hospital Medical Center. While most Culinary members work in casinos, the union does not represent dealers and other employees directly providing gaming services. The union also has a partnership with the Culinary Academy of Las Vegas, which Hattie Canty, the first African-American woman elected to be president of the Culinary Union, was instrumental in organizing. North Las Vegas is a suburban city in Clark County, Nevada, United States, in the Las Vegas Valley. Kelvin Atkinson (born April 8, 1969) is a former Democratic Party (United States), Democratic member of the Nevada Senate, representing Nevada's 4th Senate district, District 4. He previously served in the Nevada Assembly, representing Clark County District 17 from 2002 to 2012.
