Marcel Salathé
Marcel Salathé (born 1975 in Basel) is a Swiss digital epidemiologist and currently an associate professor at EPFL. He is the PI of the Lab of Digital Epidemiology, and co-director of the EPFL AI Center. In the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic, Salathé was the most quoted scientist in the Swiss media. Career From 1995 to 2002, Salathé studied biology at the University of Basel. In 2007, he graduated in biology and environmental sciences at ETH Zurich with a PhD on population genetics and evolutionary biology in the group of Sebastian Bonhoeffer, where he thereafter pursued postdoctoral studies for one year. In 2008, Salathé was awarded with a Society in Science Branco Weiss fellowship. The same year he joined group of Marcus Feldman at Stanford University as a postdoctoral researcher. Edouard Bugnion
Edouard "Ed" Bugnion (born 1970) is a Swiss software architect and businessman. Biography Bugnion was raised in Neuchâtel, Switzerland. Bugnion graduated with a bachelor's degree in engineering from ETH Zurich in 1994 and a master's degree from Stanford University in 1996. He was one of the five founders of VMware in 1998 (with his advisor Mendel Rosenblum) and was the chief architect until 2004. He had been a Ph.D. candidate in computer science at Stanford University prior to co-founding VMware. While he was chief architect, VMware developed the secure desktop initiative also known as NetTop for the US National Security Agency. His primary research interests are in operating systems and computer architectures, and he was a key member of the SimOS and Disco virtual machine research teams. Federal Council (Switzerland)
The Federal Council (german: Bundesrat; french: Conseil fédéral; it, Consiglio federale; rm, Cussegl federal) is the executive body of the federal government of the Swiss Confederation and serves as the collective head of state and government of Switzerland. It meets in the west wing of the Federal Palace in Bern. While the entire Federal Council is responsible for leading the federal administration of Switzerland, each Councillor heads one of the seven federal executive departments. Branco Weiss
Branco Weiss (23 April 1929 in Zagreb, Yugoslavia – 31 October 2010 in Zurich, Switzerland) was a Swiss entrepreneur and patron. Life Weiss was born into a Jewish family from the Austrian province Burgenland which had settled in Croatia. After his father's death at the hand of the fascists in 1943, Weiss fled with his mother to Italy and later to Switzerland. While growing up in a town on the shore of Lake Constance, he studied literature, art and history and developed an interest in natural sciences. He obtained his high-school diploma in Glarisegg in 1947. Subsequently, he enrolled at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich and graduated there with a degree in chemical engineering in 1951.
