Anne Hutchinson
Anne Hutchinson (née Marbury; July 1591 – August 1643) was a Puritan spiritual advisor, religious reformer, and an important participant in the Antinomian Controversy which shook the infant Massachusetts Bay Colony from 1636 to 1638. Her strong religious convictions were at odds with the established Puritan clergy in the Boston area and her popularity and charisma helped create a theological schism that threatened the Puritan religious community in New England. She was eventually tried and convicted, then banished from the colony with many of her supporters. Hutchinson was born in Alford, Lincolnshire, England, the daughter of Francis Marbury, an Anglican cleric and school teacher who gave her a far better education than most other girls received. She lived in London as a young adult, and there married a friend from home, William Hutchinson. Charles Clagett Marbury
Charles Clagett Marbury (1898 – July 19, 1991) was an American politician and judge, who served as a justice of the Maryland Court of Appeals from 1960 to 1969. Marbury was elected to the Maryland House of Delegates in 1931 and served until he was elected to the state Senate in 1941. A short while later, he was appointed to serve as a Circuit Court judge, and later, to one of two newly-created seats on the Court of Appeals. He was born in Upper Marlboro, Maryland and attended the Emerson Preparatory School in Washington, D.C. and received a degree from the Johns Hopkins University in 1922. Part of his studies were conducted at the University of Bordeaux where he remained after serving in the field artillery of the 29th Division in World War I. Francis Marbury
Francis Marbury (sometimes spelled Merbury) (1555–1611) was a Cambridge-educated English cleric, schoolmaster and playwright. He is best known for being the father of Anne Hutchinson, considered the most famous English woman in colonial America, and Katherine Marbury Scott, the first known woman to convert to Quakerism in the United States. Born in 1555, Marbury was the son of William Marbury, a lawyer from Lincolnshire, and Agnes Lenton. Young Marbury attended Christ's College, Cambridge. He is not known to have graduated, though he was ordained as a deacon in the Church of England in January 1578. He was given a ministry position in Northampton and almost immediately came into conflict with the bishop. Ogle Marbury
Ogle Marbury (August 23, 1882 – October 3, 1973) was an American politician and jurist who served as Chief Judge of the supreme court of the U.S. state of Maryland, the Court of Appeals. Early life and education Marbury was born near Guilford, Howard County, Maryland to Eleanora Brevitt (née MacKenzie) and Reverend Ogle Marbury. He was privately tutored as a youth, and also attended Baltimore City College and Deichmann Gymnasium School. He received his B.A. degree in 1902 from Johns Hopkins University, and his LL.B. degree from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1904. In 1904, Marbury was admitted to the Maryland Bar and entered into private practice in Prince George's County and Baltimore. Stephon Xavier Marbury (born February 20, 1977) is an American former professional basketball player and current head coach in the Chinese Basketball Association.
