Maow
Maow was a Canadians, Canadian indie rock band from Vancouver, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. A pop punk combo, the band was part of the "cuddlecore" scene led by Cub (band), cub. Maow consisted of guitarist/singer Tobey Black, bassist/singer Corrina Beesley-Hammond and drummer/singer Neko Case, who had been with Cub. History The band came together in 1994, when Americans Case and Beesley-Hammond, who had been at art school together (at what is now Emily Carr University of Art and Design), joined with Black, also an American who was studying in Vancouver. Their original name was 'Meow'; they changed it when a New York band of the same name objected. They played their first gig in the backyard of the 'House of Rock', where its residents, members of The Smugglers (band), The Smugglers, held events such as the 'Debut-B-Q'. The Unforgiving Sounds Of Maow
''The Unforgiving Sounds of Maow'' is a 1996 album by Vancouver punk rock, punk band Maow. It was the band's only full-length album, 21 minutes in length. The album is notable primarily for being Neko Case's debut as a lead vocalist, although her loud, punk-rock singing on this project is not typical of her later style. On the album, Case shares lead vocal duties with bandmates Tobey Black and Corrina Hammond. Many of the songs are about partying. Neko Case
Neko Richelle Case (; born September 8, 1970) is an American singer-songwriter and member of the Canadian indie rock group the New Pornographers. Case has a powerful, untrained contralto voice, which has been described by contemporaries and critics as a "flamethrower," "a powerhouse hichseems like it might level buildings," "a 120-mph fastball," and a "vocal tornado". Critics also note her idiosyncratic, "cryptic," "imagistic" lyrics, and credit her as a significant figure in the early 21st-century American revival of the tenor guitar. Mint Records
Mint Records is a Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada-based independent record label founded in 1991, by friends and campus radio enthusiasts Randy Iwata and Bill Baker. Mint has put out over 150 releases, several of which have won Juno Awards. History Iwata and Baker started working together at CITR-FM, the University of British Columbia radio station. Three years after graduation, they left the station, and founded Mint Records in January, 1991 to release the music of up-and-coming bands in Vancouver. The Hanson Brothers (band)
The Hanson Brothers were a Canadian punk rock band formed in 1984 in Victoria and later based in Vancouver. The group included John and Rob Wright and Tom Holliston, all members of the punk rock band Nomeansno. The Hanson Brothers' band name references characters in the cult ice hockey film '' Slap Shot''. History From 1984 to 1989, the Wright brothers (John on drums and Rob on bass guitar) and original NoMeansNo guitarist Andy Kerr performed Ramones cover sets sporadically under the name The Hanson Brothers. Horseshoe Tavern
The Horseshoe Tavern (known as ''The Horseshoe'', ''The 'Shoe'', The 'Toronto Tavern' and The 'Triple T' to Toronto locals) is a concert venue at 370 Queen Street West (northeast corner of Queen at Spadina) in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and has been in operation since 1947.
