Manuʻa District
The Manua District is one of the three primary administrative divisions of American Samoa. The district comprises the Manua Islands, which are located approximately 61 miles east of the main island, Tutuila. The Manua District is considered to be a county-equivalent by the U.S. Census Bureau. In 2010, the Manua District had a per capita income of $5,441 — this makes the Manua District the county / county-equivalent with the lowest-per capita income in the entire United States. Tutuila
Tutuila is the main island of American Samoa (and its largest), and is part of the archipelago of Samoan Islands. It is the third largest island in the Samoan Islands chain of the Central Pacific. It is located roughly northeast of Brisbane, Australia and lies over to the northeast of Fiji. It contains a large, natural harbor, Pago Pago Harbor, where Pago Pago, the capital of American Samoa, is situated. Pago Pago International Airport is also located on Tutuila. The island’s land expanse is about 68% of the total land area of American Samoa. With 56,000 inhabitants, it is also home to 95% of the population of American Samoa. Faleasao County
Faleāsao is a village in American Samoa. It is located in Manu'a District, on the northern shore of Ta'ū Island. It is divided into two subvillages the eastern side being called Si'ua'i while the western half being called Tufulele (Tufu). The high chief is the Aso'au title currently in array for there is no known heir to the title. Faleasao lies on Faleasao Bay on the extreme northwest coast of Ta'ū Island. The narrow bay is closed off towards the north by a 330-500-ft. high bluff and protected towards the south by a low cliffy promontory known as Malinu'u; a wide border reef all but fills the narrow bay. It is home to a white sandy beach. Just offshore there is much coral just below the surface which is exposed at low tide. It is bordered by the Tunoa Ridge and lies just south of Si'ulagi Point. Fitiuta County
Fitiuta, also known as Fiti'uta or Maia, is a village on the northeast coast of Taʻū island, one of the Manuʻa Islands in American Samoa. According to the 2000 United States census, Fitiuta had a population of 358, down from 454 in 1990. As of the 2010 United States Census, it had a population of 153. The village of Fitiuta is made up of two hamlets: Maia and Leusoali'i, the latter of which is the most eastern area on the island. Historically, they were classified as villages. The town has two shops, a hotel and a church, which was recently built. Fitiuta Airport is located in the town. The area is famed for its myths and legends. According to Samoan mythology, it was in a place called Saua in Fitiuta that the god Tagaloa decided to make the first human being and crown the first human king, the Tuimanu'a. It was the result of the subdivision of the prior Luanuu County in two, with the other newly created county being Olosega, first reported on the 1930 U.S. Census. Olosega County is a county in the Manu'a District in American Samoa. It was the result of the subdivision of the prior Luanuu County in two, with the other newly created county being Ofu, first reported on the 1930 U.S. Census. It consists of the eastern portion of Tutuila, American Samoa's largest island, plus the island of Aunu'u.
