Manouchehr Hashemi
General Manouchehr Hashemi (Persian: منوچهر هاشمی; 16 July 1918, Khoy — 7 October 2007) was an Iranian intelligence officer for the Shah's SAVAK. He was the head of the provincial offices of SAVAK in Fars and Khorasan provinces, and later head of its counter-intelligence department commonly known as department VIII. After his career as an Army Infantry officer, he became one of SAVAK's longest-serving senior officers (serving from 1957 to 1979''The Iranian'', 11 June 1998A sober look at SAVAK/ref>), he had previously been head of the provincial offices of SAVAK in the provinces of Fars and Khorasan. Khoy
Khoy (Persian and az, خوی; ; ; also Romanized as Khoi), is a city and capital of Khoy County, West Azerbaijan Province, Iran. At the 2012 census, its population was 200,985. Khoy is located north of the province's capital and largest city Urmia, and 807 km north-west to Tehran. The region's economy is based on agriculture, particularly the production of fruit, grain, and timber. Khoy is nicknamed as the Sunflower city of Iran. At the 2006 census, the city had a population of 178,708, with an estimated 2012 population of 200,985. Khoy is populated by both Azerbaijanis and Kurds. Payam-e Emrooz
Before being shut down in 2000 by the Iranian Judiciary System, ''Payam-e Emrooz'' was the most professional monthly magazine with news and analyses in the areas of politics, society, culture, and economy. The magazine was headquartered in Tehran. Its existence was a symbol of the "freedom of press" in a country with its own specific political system. The magazine had considerable number of advertisements by foreign companies and institutes and a large number of Iranian students, intellectuals, and middle-class people (in addition to state officials) among its readers. Mohammad Zahedi-Asl was the license-holder and the responsible manager, and Amid Naeini was the editor in chief of the magazine. "The Exclusive Report" was one of the most popular and informative parts of each edition. Mehdi Karroubi
Mehdi Karroubi ( fa, مهدی کروبی, Mehdi Karrubi, born 26 September 1937) is an Iranian Shia cleric and Iranian reform movement, reformist politician leading the National Trust Party (Iran), National Trust Party. Following 2009–2010 Iranian election protests, Karroubi was put under house arrest in February 2011 – reportedly ordered by the Supreme Leader of Iran – without officially being charged, although he is accused of being a "seditionist" and "traitor". As of 2021, he is still confined to his house. Manucher Ghorbanifar
Manucher Ghorbanifar ( fa, منوچهر قربانیفر; nicknamed Gorba, born May 9, 1945) is an expatriate Iranian arms dealer and former SAVAK agent. According to the ''Washington Report on Middle East Affairs'', Ghorbanifar was a double agent for Iran and Israel. The CIA director William Casey believed that Ghorbanifar was an Israeli agent. Theodore Shackley
Theodore George "Ted" Shackley, Jr. (July 16, 1927 – December 9, 2002) was an American CIA officer involved in many important and controversial CIA operations during the 1960s and 1970s. He is one of the most decorated CIA officers. Due to his "light hair and mysterious ways", Shackley was known to his colleagues as "the Blond Ghost". Counterintelligence is an activity aimed at protecting an agency's intelligence program from an opposition's intelligence service.
