Mannheim–Frankfurt Railway
Mannheim–Frankfurt railway is a German standard gauge, Railway electrification system, electrified railway line and runs in southern Hesse and northern Baden-Württemberg between Frankfurt and Mannheim Hauptbahnhof, Mannheim. It is also called the ''Riedbahn'' (Ried Railway). The line runs through an area called the ''Hessian Ried, Hessische Ried'', hence the name. The term ''Riedbahn'' was originally used for the Darmstadt–Worms railway and the two lines share the central section between Groß-Gerau station, Groß-Gerau and Biblis station, Biblis. 15 KV AC Railway Electrification
Railway electrification systems using at are used on transport railways in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, and Norway. The high voltage enables high power transmission with the lower frequency reducing the losses of the traction motors that were available at the beginning of the 20th century. Nibelung Railway
The Nibelung Railway (german: Nibelungenbahn) is a 23.9 km long electrified line between Worms in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate and Bensheim in Hesse. Its name refers to the fact that the line connects several places that play an important role in the Nibelung legend. History After 1846, when the Main-Neckar Railway was opened in the north-south direction along the Bergstraße (Mountain Road), it was also planned to build a railway to open up the Hessian part of the ''Vorderer Odenwald'' ("forward Odenwald", the western Odenwald near the Bergstraße). One aim was to connect raw materials originating from this area with the port of Worms. Bürstadt
Bürstadt is a town in the Bergstraße district in southern Hesse, Germany, 7 km east of Worms, and 17 km north of Mannheim. In 1981, the town hosted the 21st ''Hessentag'' state festival. Weschnitz
The Weschnitz is a right tributary of the Rhine running through the German states of Hesse and Baden-Württemberg. The name of the river traces to the Celtic god Visucius, who was worshiped in the region. The river source is in the Odenwald, in the town of Grasellenbach. It then flows in a westerly direction through a number of communities, including Fürth, Rimbach, Mörlenbach and Birkenau. At Weinheim, the river splits into two branches as it enters the Upper Rhine Plain. The two courses join at Lorsch. It then flows through the communities of Einhausen and Biblis before emptying into the Rhine at the Biblis Nuclear Power Plant. Biblis Station
Biblis station is the only station of the town of Biblis in the German state of Hesse. It is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 4 station. The station is located on the Mannheim–Frankfurt railway, where the Worms–Biblis railway branches off to Worms. Both lines developed from the ''Riedbahn'' (Ried Railway). History On 29 May 1869 the line from Darmstadt via Riedstadt-Goddelau and Biblis to the Rosengarten station, on the opposite side of the Rhine to Worms, was opened by the Prime Minister of the Grand Duchy of Hesse, Reinhard Carl Friedrich von Dalwigk. From Rosengarten station, trains crossed the Rhine from 1870 to 1900 using the Worms-Rosengarten train ferry, as there was no bridge across the Rhine at Worms. Biblis Nuclear Power Plant
__NOTOC__ The Biblis Nuclear Power Plant is in the South Hessian municipality of Biblis and consists of two units: unit A with a gross output of 1200 megawatts and unit B with a gross output of 1300 megawatts. Both units are pressurized water reactors. The operator of this power plant is the German RWE Power AG, an electrical utility based in Essen. Unit A began operation on July 16, 1974 and entered commercial service on August 25, 1974; unit B reached criticality on March 25, 1976. The Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Neckar (VRN) is a transport association covering parts of the German states of Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate and Hesse in south-west Germany. Founded in 1989, it initially served the Rhein Neckar Area, but has since grown beyond its borders to cover an oblong area of 10,000 km2 with a population of 3 million, including Mannheim and Ludwigshafen, Heidelberg, Kaiserslautern, the entire Palatinate Forest and the northernmost parts of Baden-Württemberg.
