Manjul (born 1971) is an Indian political cartoonist. After working with major Indian publications like Dainik jagran, Rashtriya Sahara, Financial Express, India Today, The Economic Times and Daily News and Analysis currently he is contributing for various Indian publications & websites. He is also a winner of Maya Kamath Memorial Awards for Excellence in Cartooning 2009. Manjul awarded Newsmakers Achievers Awards in 2022. A cartoonist is a visual artist who specializes in both drawing and writing cartoons (individual images) or comics (sequential images). Cartoonists differ from comics writers or comic book illustrators in that they produce both the literary and graphic components of the work as part of their practice. An editorial cartoonist, also known as a political cartoonist, is an artist who draws editorial cartoons that contain some level of political or social commentary. Their cartoons are used to convey and question an aspect of daily news or current affairs in a national or international context. Political cartoonists generally adopt a caricaturist style of drawing, to capture the likeness of a politician or subject. They may also employ humor or satire to ridicule an individual or group, emphasize their point of view or comment on a particular event. Media trends The traditional and most common outlet for political cartoonists is the pocket cartoon, which usually appears in the editorial page or the front news page of a newspaper, in the front news section of a newspaper. Maya Kamath Memorial Award
Maya Kamath (1951-2001) was an Indian cartoonist. Born in Bombay, India, Kamath spent her formative years in Delhi, and acquired an MA in English literature. Drawing was a childhood hobby and she became an illustrator with Macmillan publishers and a drawing teacher at Sophia's School. It was the sight of sketches in a book titled '' For Better or for Worse'', by Lynn Johnston, that inspired her to draw cartoons . Kamath's career as a cartoonist began in 1985 with ''The Evening Herald'' a publication of the Deccan Herald group. She later worked for Indian newspapers such as ''The Indian Express'', ''The Asian Age'' and ''The Times of India''. She also contributed environmental cartoons in a German collection called ''Third World''. ''Mid-Day'' (stylised as mid-day) is a morning daily Indian compact newspaper owned by Jagran Prakashan Limited. Editions in various languages were published in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Pune.
