Provincial Road 345 (PR 345) is a west–east provincial road in southwestern Manitoba. The roadway is long. Route description The route begins by straddling the Saskatchewan border going north, before curving eastward into Manitoba. The route continues west as Saskatchewan Highway 361. The road is unpaved for its first or so before becoming paved just west of Tilston. PR 345 traverses mainly rural areas between the Saskatchewan province line and PTH 21, while traversing the towns of Tilston, Broomhill and Lauder. It is in charge of "the development of transportation policy and legislation, and fthe management of the province’s vast infrastructure network." Melita () is a town located in the south-western corner of the Canadian province of Manitoba. It is surrounded by the Municipality of Two Borders and occupies a bend of the Souris River. Graham Creek runs along the west side of town and into the Souris River. The population at the 2016 census was 1,042. It sits at the junction of Highways 3 and 83, approximately 320 km southwest of Winnipeg. Melita is known as the "Grasslands Bird Capital of Manitoba" and is located in Manitoba's banana belt. Manitoba Highway 21
Provincial Trunk Highway 21 (PTH 21) is a provincial highway in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It runs from the U.S. border (where it meets with ND 14) to PTH 45 and PR 577 in the village of Oakburn. PTH 21 is two lanes and runs north–south in the southwestern region of the province. It is the main highway for the towns of Deloraine (where it meets PTH 3), Hartney, Hamiota, and Shoal Lake. The speed limit is 90 km/h (55 mph). In 2012, PTH 21 was given the dubious distinction of being named the second-worst road in the province that year. History The northern terminus for PTH 21 was originally located at PTH 2 in Deleau. In 1947, it extended north to PTH 1 in Griswold. In 1949, it extended north to PTH 4 in Shoal Lake, replacing part of PTH 1 and all of PTH 28. In 1960, PTH 21 extended north to its present terminus. Tilston is a small community in the Municipality of Two Borders, Manitoba, Canada. It was rated EF2. Infrastructure Tilston was served by the Canadian Pacific Railway until a spring storm in 1976 washed out the rail bridge near Lauder Manitoba. The bridge was not repaired and the line was salvaged beginning in 1978. Two grain elevators remain standing and some of the ties on the former siding are still in place. Broomhill is a community in the Municipality of Two Borders, Manitoba, Canada. The community is located on Highway 345 between the communities of Tilston and Bede, approximately 124 km south-west of Brandon, Manitoba only 25 km north-west of the Town of Melita. The town was named for the abundance of Broom plants that were seen growing on the sandhills in the area. This area is commonly known for its rare mix of grasslands and wildlife. Infrastructure Broomhill was served by the Canadian Pacific Railway on its Alida subdivision until a storm in the spring of 1976 washed out the bridge over the Souris River near Lauder Manitoba. Lauder is a small community in the Rural Municipality of Grassland in the Provinces and territories of Canada, Canadian province of Manitoba. The community is located at the junction of Manitoba Highway 254, Highway 254 and Manitoba Highway 345, Highway 345, approximately 100 km south-west of Brandon, Manitoba, Brandon only 22 km south-west of the Town of Hartney, Manitoba, Hartney. Lauder is about 3 miles south of the Souris River and the Lauder Sand Hills. Lauder was established in 1891 by the Canadian Pacific Railway and named after ArchdeacoJohn Strutt Lauder rector of Christ Church in Ottawa. The first survey laid out blocks 1-3 then in 1903, the CPR surveyors laid out blocks 4-7. About the only type of business the town didn't have in its long history was a fire department.
