Manitoba Provincial Road 241
Provincial Road 241 (PR 241) is a short provincial road in Manitoba, Canada. It begins at Winnipeg's Perimeter Highway (PTH 100) and runs east into the Rural Municipality of Headingley, ending at PR 334 south (Harris Road). PR 241 is a western extension of Roblin Boulevard running along the south side of the Assiniboine River, used mostly by local residents and as an alternate to Portage Avenue (PTH 1) between Winnipeg and Headingley. PR 241 formerly extended westward to Lido Plage Road (former PR 424) in the Rural Municipality of Cartier. It is in charge of "the development of transportation policy and legislation, and fthe management of the province’s vast infrastructure network." Headingley (sometimes spelled Headingly) is a rural municipality in Manitoba, Canada. It is located directly west of Winnipeg and had a population of 3,579 people as of the 2016 census. The Trans-Canada Highway and the Assiniboine River run through the municipality. The unincorporated community of Headingley is situated within the municipality along Manitoba Provincial Road 334 near the Trans-Canada Highway. The municipality takes its name from the suburb of Headingley in the city of Leeds in West Yorkshire, England. History The first permanent European residents of the present-day Headingley area are figured to have been Oliver Gowler (1814-1865) and his wife, Mary (Nee Lady Neville Braybrooke) (1816-1878), who came to Canada together in the fall of 1836, hired by the Hudson ’s Bay Company to work on their experimental farm at Red River. Provincial Trunk Highways (PTH) 100 and 101, collectively known as the Perimeter Highway, form a beltway around the Canadian city of Winnipeg, Manitoba. The Perimeter Highway is approximately in length and serves as a ring road around Winnipeg for through traffic. It is often considered by local residents to be the city's unofficial boundary, although approximately three-quarters of the Perimeter Highway actually lies in the other municipalities within the Winnipeg Metropolitan Region. The Assiniboine River (''; french: Rivière Assiniboine'') is a river that runs through the prairies of Western Canada in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. It is a tributary of the Red River of the North, Red River. The Assiniboine is a typical meandering river with a single main channel embanked within a flat, shallow valley in some places and a steep valley in others.
