"Manhaul" is a 1962 Australian television film. It aired 8 September 1962 as part of ''The General Motors Hour'', an occasional series which presented various one-off productions. It aired on ATN-7 in Sydney, QTQ-9 in Brisbane and GTV-9 in Melbourne , despite the two stations having severed their relationship with the formation of the Nine Network. ''The General Motors Hour'' was an Australian radio and television drama series. Radio The radio series was a regular one hour drama broadcast over the Macquarie Radio Network at 8 pm on Thursays. It is believed to have commenced in the late 1940s and lasted into the early 1960s. Producers included Robert Peach and Harry Dearth. The announcer was John Dease. 15 episodes are available on the Old Time Radio website. Television The television version of The General Motors Hour was a loosely scheduled occasional series which aired on Australian television from 1960 to 1962. Wynn Roberts (born 1923/1924 – 24 August 2021) credited also as Wyn Roberts and Wynne Roberts, was an Australian radio, stage and screen actor who appeared in more than 70 film and television productions between the early 1950s and 2001. He appeared in numerous TV plays and also featured in TV miniseries over a career spanning 50 years. His television credits include ''Homicide'', ''Prisoner'', '' Special Squad'', ''Neighbours'', ''The Flying Doctors'', ''Police Rescue'', ''A Country Practice'' and '' Wildside''. He is also known for his role as Sergeant Bumpher in the 1975 film classic '' Picnic at Hanging Rock''. He was also a leading stage actor, starting from the late 1940s. Frederick Henry Parslow (14 August 1932 – 26 January 2017) was an Australian actor, who appeared in film, television and theatre. Acting career Parslow was notable in several film and TV roles, with parts in internationally successful TV soap opera's ''The Sullivans'' and '' Neighbours'' and was active in theatre, having served as a member of the Melbourne Theatre Company for nearly thirty years, joining the company when it was founded in 1953, known then the Union Theatre Repertory Company, and making his first performance with in a touring production of ''Twelfth Night'' Whilst a dominant figure on the Melbourne theatre scene, Parslow was generally reluctant to take on television roles. The Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition (CTAE) of 1955–1958 was a Commonwealth-sponsored expedition that successfully completed the first overland crossing of Antarctica, via the South Pole. Shell Presents
''Shell Presents'' was an early attempt at Australian television drama, being an umbrella title for several different productions. It debuted on 4 April 1959, and aired on ATN-7 and GTV-9, who split production of plays for the series between them. It was an anthology series, each program being a self-contained play for television. The series won a Logie award in 1960 for ''TV Highlight of 1959''. As the title suggests, it was sponsored by Shell. It was described as "a very big deal for the station: major institutional sponsorship from international companies for locally produced drama." It would be followed by ''The General Motors Hour''. Though it usually presented straight drama, it also presented a live musical production titled ''Pardon Miss Westcott'', set in colonial-era Australia. "Reflections in Dark Glasses" is an Australian television film, or rather a television play, which aired in 1960. It aired as part of ''Shell Presents'', which consisted of monthly presentations of stand-alone television dramas. It was written by Sydney writer James Workman, and is notable as an early example of Australian-written television drama. It was broadcast live in Sydney, then recorded and shown in Melbourne. Unlike some Australian television of the early 1960s, the program still exists, as a kinescope recording held by the National Film and Sound Archive. The program was much acclaimed.
