Manhaton Records
Manhaton Records is a British independent record label which was formed in 1999. It was started by musician Eric Bibb and his then manager, Alan Robinson, who had previously run Code Blue Records for Warner Music along with Mike Vernon and Tony Engle. Apart from Eric Bibb, the label's roster has included Robin Trower, Aynsley Lister, King King, Ben Poole, Sari Schorr, and Stevie Nimmo. Independent Record Label
An independent record label (or indie label) is a record label that operates without the funding or distribution of major record labels; they are a type of small- to medium-sized enterprise, or SME. The labels and artists are often represented by trade associations in their country or region, which in turn are represented by the international trade body, the Worldwide Independent Network (WIN). Many of the labels started as producers and distributors of specific genres of music, such as jazz music, or represent something new and non-mainstream, such as Elvis Presley in the early days. Indies release rock, soul, R&B, jazz, blues, gospel, reggae, hip hop, and world music. Eric Bibb
Eric Charles Bibb (born August 16, 1951) is a Grammy-nominated American-born blues singer and songwriter. Biography Bibb's father, Leon, was a musical theatre singer, who made a name for himself as part of the 1960s New York folk scene; his uncle was the jazz pianist and composer John Lewis, of the Modern Jazz Quartet. Family friends included Pete Seeger, and actor/singer/activist Paul Robeson, Bibb's godfather. He was given his first steel-string acoustic guitar at age seven. Growing up surrounded by talent, he recalls a childhood conversation with Bob Dylan, who, on the subject of guitar playing, advised the 11-year-old Bibb to "Keep it simple, forget all that fancy stuff" (as recounted in "The Transatlantic Sessions 5" program and DVD from the BBC). Mike Vernon (record Producer)
Michael William Hugh Vernon (born 20 November 1944) is an English music executive studio owner, and record producer from Harrow, Middlesex. He produced albums for British blues artists and groups in the 1960s, working with the Bluesbreakers, David Bowie, Duster Bennett, Savoy Brown, Chicken Shack, Climax Blues Band, Eric Clapton, Fleetwood Mac, Peter Green, Danny Kirwan, John Mayall, Christine McVie and Ten Years After amongst others. Biography Vernon is best known as founder of the blues record label, Blue Horizon. He worked at Decca Records starting in 1963, and produced the Mayall-Clapton collaboration '' Blues Breakers with Eric Clapton'' (1966). In 1967, he produced David Bowie's debut album for Deram Records. The 1971 Blue Horizon release ''Bring It Back Home'' featured Paul Kossoff and Rory Gallagher, each appearing on one track. Robin Trower
Robin Leonard Trower (born 9 March 1945) is an English rock guitarist who achieved success with Procol Harum throughout 1967–1971, and then again as the bandleader of his own power trio known as the Robin Trower Band. Biography Robin Trower was born in Catford, London, England, and grew up in Southend-on-Sea, Essex. In 1962, he formed a band that became the Paramounts, later including Westcliff High School pupil Gary Brooker. The Paramounts disbanded in 1966 to pursue individual projects. During this time, Trower created a local three-piece band called the Jam (not to be confused with The Jam, the later group with Paul Weller). Trower then joined Brooker's new band Procol Harum following the success of their debut single "A Whiter Shade of Pale" in 1967, remaining with them until 1971 and appearing on the group's first five albums. Aynsley Lister
Aynsley Lister (born 14 November 1976 in Leicester, England) is a British blues-rock guitarist/singer and songwriter. Biography Lister started playing guitar at 8 and played his first concert in a bar band at the age of 13. He had learned guitar by playing along to his father's old 45s of Freddie King, John Mayall and Eric Clapton. By the time he was 18, having already been in several bands, he formed his own, which recorded two albums ''Messin' With The Kid'' (1996) and ''Pay Attention!'' (1997). Three numbers written by Lister, on the second album, attracted the attention of Ruf Records' owner Thomas Ruf. In 1998 they signed a record deal and Lister recorded his first major album, ''Aynsley Lister'', produced by Jim Gaines. King King (band)
King King is a British blues rock group, formed in 2008 by Alan Nimmo and Lindsay Coulson, both formerly of The Nimmo Brothers. The band has released five studio albums and one live album to date. The current line up of King King is Alan Nimmo (guitar and lead vocals), Stevie Nimmo (guitar and vocals), Jonny Dyke (keyboards), Zander Greenshields (bass) and Andrew Scott (drums). Their name comes from a former blues club, King King in Los Angeles, which burnt down and was immortalised in a live album by The Red Devils. History King King was formed in the summer of 2008 in Lincoln with the line up of Alan Nimmo (guitar/vocals), Lindsay Coulson (bass), Dale Storr (keyboards) and Dave Raeburn (drums). Ben Poole
Ben Poole is a British blues rock guitarist, singer, and songwriter. One reviewer noted that "his music style is original and can be described as energetic blend of blues, pop, and rock and roll". Poole's musical ability has been lauded by Jeff Beck and Gary Moore. Life and career Poole's father was a professional musician and there were several musical instruments in his household when Poole was going up. However, from the age of nine, Poole was only interested in playing the guitar. He had a guitar tutor who encouraged Poole to play what he liked. AllMusic (previously known as All Music Guide and AMG) is an American online music database. It catalogs more than three million album entries and 30 million tracks, as well as information on musicians and bands. Initiated in 1991, the database was first made available on the Internet in 1994. AllMusic is owned by RhythmOne. Sari Schorr
Sari Beth Schorr is an American blues rock singer and songwriter. She has released three albums, with the most recent being a live recording issued in 2020. Schorr has worked with Mike Vernon, Walter Trout, Innes Sibun, Joe Louis Walker, Popa Chubby, Warren Haynes, Keb Mo', Taj Mahal, Eric Burdon, Robin Trower and Carly Simon. Life and career She was born in New York, New York, United States, to a father who was a pilot in the United States Air Force, and a mother who worked as a fashion model. Through her parents love of music, as a youngster Schorr heard recordings by Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday. This in turn sparked her interest to explore other female singers, such as Bessie Smith, Ma Rainey, Mamie Smith and Etta James. Stevie Nimmo
The Nimmo Brothers are a Scottish blues rock band. History The Nimmo Brothers was founded in 1995 by the brothers Stevie and Alan Nimmo (both of whom play guitar and sing) in Glasgow. Previously, they were in a group called the Blackwater Blues Band, which released one album. Over time, the Nimmo brothers have had several accompanying musicians. The Nimmo Brothers recorded their first album '' Moving On '' (1998) in Glasgow. Their subsequent albums have all been recorded for Armadillo Music. Their first album for Armadillo, recorded in 2001, was ''Coming Your Way''. Since 2009, Alan Nimmo performs with his band King King. His older brother Stevie plays with the Stevie Nimmo Trio. UK Albums Chart
The Official Albums Chart is a list of albums ranked by physical and digital sales and (from March 2015) audio streaming in the United Kingdom. It was published for the first time on 22 July 1956 and is compiled every week by the Official Charts Company (OCC) on Fridays (previously Sundays). It is broadcast on BBC Radio 1 (top 5) and found on the OCC website as a Top 100 or on UKChartsPlus as a Top 200, with positions continuing until all sales have been tracked in data only available to industry insiders. However, even though number 100 was classed as a hit album (as in the case of The Guinness Book of British Hit Albums) in the 1980s until January 1989, since the compilations were removed this definition was changed to Top 75 with follow-up books such as The Virgin Book of British Hit Albums book only including this data.
