Manguinhos Airport
Manguinhos Airport was an airport that existed in the neighborhood of Manguinhos, near Oswaldo Cruz Foundation in Rio de Janeiro from 1936 to 1972. History The origin of Manguinhos Airport is related to Aeroclube do Brasil ( en, Brazil Flying club), a school of aviation founded in 1911 at Campo dos Afonsos Airport. In 1919 the Brazilian Army decided to locate at this facility the School of Military Aviation and forced the Flying Club to move elsewhere. The board of directors decided to re-locate its facilities near Oswaldo Cruz Foundation and for that land was flattened and a swamp drained. An official property land-title was however never given to the Flying Club; it just occupied the site with the acknowledgement of authorities. Manguinhos was officially opened in 1936 although it had been in use before this year. Manguinhos Library Park
Manguinhos Library Park ( pt, Biblioteca-Parque de Manguinhos) is a library and park complex in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The library opened on April 29, 2010. It contains over 25,000 books, 900 DVDs and 3 million songs, and also has a theatre that seats 200 people, a music room, classrooms, and a “Meu Bairro” ("My neighborhood") room created for community member meetings. It is located in Manguinhos, a favela in the neighborhood of Benfica. Benfica is in what is known as the "North Zone" of Rio de Janeiro. The creation of a "library park" complex was inspired by the library parks of Colombia, which were created as cultural projects in the less affluent neighborhoods of Medellín to promote social inclusion. The library's design is meant to be inviting. Its exterior is painted dark-pink with white doors and windows. Manguinhos is a small village in the municipality of Serra in Espírito Santo, Brazil, technically known as a neighbourhood (''Bairro'' in Portuguese). It is today mainly a residential village, as most people work in the Greater Vitória Metropolitan Area. Manguinhos is about 10 km north of Vitória. History The first mention of the area is said to have been made by Augustin Saint-Hilaire Augustin François César Prouvençal de Saint-Hilaire (4 October 17793 September 1853) was French botanist and traveller who was born and died in Orléans, France.
