Mangonia Park Station
Mangonia Park is a Tri-Rail commuter rail station in Mangonia Park, Florida. This is the system's northernmost station. The station is located on 45th Street ( CR 702), just west of Australian Avenue (CR 704A). There are 273 parking spaces at the station. History The Mangonia Park station was opened on October 28, 1996, along a former Seaboard Air Line Railroad line, and was the first station to serve the community. Every January, Palm Beach County Public School safety patrol boards charter an Amtrak train at the station for their annual trip to Washington, D.C. The train operates with a ''Silver Meteor'' consist plus several Horizon coaches. On the days this train operates, the northbound or southbound ''Silver Meteors'' are actually canceled since the train uses the equipment that would normally be used for those runs. South Florida Regional Transportation Authority
South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA), based in Pompano Beach, Florida, provides public transport services in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties. The organization was created on July 1, 2003, by the Florida Legislature and enacted by the Florida Department of Transportation. Replacing the pre-existing Tri-County Commuter Rail Authority, the goal of incorporation was to expand cooperation between the Tri-Rail commuter rail service and the existing county public transport authorities: Broward County Transit, Miami-Dade Transit, and Palm Tran. State Road 704A (Florida)
State Road 704 (SR 704), also known as Okeechobee Boulevard, is a east–west boulevard in the West Palm Beach area, known for being dangerous to pedestrians and bicyclists. It extends from an intersection with SR 7 at the border of West Palm Beach and Royal Palm Beach and just south of The Acreage at the western end to an intersection with SR A1A in Palm Beach at the east end. Route description State Road 704 begins at the intersection of Okeechobee Boulevard and State Road 7, with commercial areas surrounding three of the corners. SR 704 heads east through the suburban West Palm Beach area known as Century Village passing by strip malls and gated communities. The Gardens Mall is a two-story, enclosed shopping mall in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Its anchors are Macy's, Sears, Bloomingdale's, Nordstrom and Saks Fifth Avenue, and it features more than 160 specialty shops and restaurants. History The Gardens Mall, originally called The Gardens of The Palm Beaches, was developed by The Forbes Company, based in Southfield, Michigan. On October 5, 1988, the mall opened with three initial anchor stores: Burdines, Sears and the second Macy's in Florida. Bloomingdales and Saks Fifth Avenue joined as tenants in 1990. Horizon (railcar)
The Horizon is a type of single-level intercity railroad passenger car used by Amtrak, the national rail passenger carrier in the United States. Amtrak ordered the cars to supplement their existing fleet of Amfleet I single-level cars used on shorter distance corridor trains. The design was based on the Comet railcar used for commuter railroads, but with modifications to make them more suitable for intercity service. Bombardier Transportation built 104 cars from 1988 to 1990 in two basic types: coaches and food service (café) cars. The first Horizon cars entered revenue service in April 1989. Silver Meteor
The ''Silver Meteor'' is a passenger train operated by Amtrak between New York City and Miami, Florida. Introduced in 1939 as the first diesel-powered streamliner between New York and Florida, it was the flagship train of the Seaboard Air Line Railroad and one of its flagship trains of its successor, the Seaboard Coast Line. It was handed to Amtrak when it took over intercity rail service in 1971. The train is part of Amtrak's ''Silver Service'' brand, along with its sister train, the '' Silver Star'', SAL’s other former flagship streamliner. The two trains are the remnants of the numerous long-distance trains that operated between Florida and New York for most of the 20th century. Seaboard Air Line Railroad
The Seaboard Air Line Railroad , which styled itself "The Route of Courteous Service," was an American railroad which existed from April 14, 1900, until July 1, 1967, when it merged with the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad, its longtime rival, to form the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad. Predecessor railroads dated from the 1830s and reorganized extensively to rebuild after the American Civil War. The company was headquartered in Norfolk, Virginia, until 1958, when its main offices were relocated to Richmond, Virginia. Tri-Rail is a commuter rail line linking Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach in Florida, United States.
