Mandi House
Mandi House is a locality in Delhi, India. It was the former residence of the Raja of Mandi in Delhi. History In the 1940s, the 18th Raja of Mandi State, Raja Sir Joginder Sen Bahadur built his residence next to what is now ''Himachal Bhawan''. The estate was later sold and divided in the 1970s. The old palace was demolished to make way for large, modern offices which were constructed in the 1990s. The state house of Himachal Pradesh, ''Himachal Bhawan'', is now located here. The headquarters ''Doordarshan Bhawan'' of the national television broadcaster Doordarshan is also located here. Formerly part of the Kingdom of Suket in the Punjab Hills, the rajput dynasty traditionally goes back to 765 AD. In about 1100, Vijaya Sen had two sons, Sahu Sen who ruled over Suket and Bahu Sen who ruled over Kullu. Bahu Sen’s descendants emigrated to Kullu until the tenth descendant, Kabakha Sen was killed by the Raja of Kullu and his son had to flee to Siokot, not very far from the present city of Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, which was founded during Ajbar Sen’s rule. Mandi State
Mandi State was a native state of British India, within the Punjab; with Mandi, Himachal Pradesh as its capital. The state of Mandi (the name means "market" in Hindi), which included two towns and 3,625 villages, was part of the States of the Punjab Hills. It was located in the Himalayan range, bordering to the west, north, and east on the British Punjabi district of Kangra; to the south, on Suket; and to the southwest, on Bilaspur. The Mandi House Metro Station is located on the Blue Line and Violet Line of the Delhi Metro in Delhi, India. It services the cultural hub of Delhi, the Mandi House area which has the National School of Drama, Ravindra Bhavan, home of Sangeet Natak Akademi and Sahitya Akademi, Shri Ram Centre for Performing Arts and Triveni Kala Sangam, As well as the Bengali Market and the nearby residential areas. History As part of Phase III of the extension of Delhi Metro, Mandi House will be expanded into an interchange station in order to reduce pressure on Rajiv Chowk station. A new 6.8-km line is expected to come up from Central Secretariat to a new station at Kashmiri Gate by the end of 2015. The new line will be developed on standard gauge and integrated with the Badarpur corridor, which too runs on standard gauge. Mandi ( formerly known as Mandav Nagar, also known as Sahor) is a major city and a municipal corporation in Mandi District in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It is situated north of state capital, Shimla in the north-west Himalayas at an average altitude of 880 metres and experiences pleasant summers and cold winters.
