Mandai Hill Camp
Mandai is a planning area located in the North Region of Singapore, famously known for being the access point of the Singapore Zoo and Night Safari. The Mandai Crematorium and Columbarium, the largest crematorium and columbarium in Singapore, is also located in Mandai planning area. Other features include the Sembawang Hot Springs and Sembawang Golf Course. In 2012, a new river-themed park, River Safari, opened beside the Singapore Zoo and Night Safari. Mandai is also slated to house the Bird Paradise by Q2 2023. Etymology and history Mandai Road was cut in 1855. The name ''Mandai'' appears in the Franklin and Jackson ''Plan of Singapore'' (1828) as a river indicated as "R. Mandi". Planning Areas Of Singapore
Planning areas, also known as DGP areas or DGP zones, are the main urban planning and census divisions of Singapore delineated by the Urban Redevelopment Authority. There are a total of 55 of these areas, organised into Regions of Singapore, five regions. A Development Guide Plan is then drawn up for each planning area, providing for detailed planning guidelines for every individual plot of land throughout the country. The planning areas were first introduced in the early 1990s after the release of the 1991 Concept Plan. Since the implementation of these boundaries, other government ministries and departments have also increasingly adopted these boundaries for their administrative purposes. North Region, Singapore
The North Region of Singapore is one of the five regions in the city-state. The region is the second largest region in terms of land area, and has a population of 582,330. Woodlands is the regional centre and also the most populous town with 255,130 residents living in the area. Comprising 13,500 hectares of land area, it includes eight planning areas. The relative isolation of the area from the Downtown Core meant relatively belated urban development and the greater abundance of natural greenery. Mandai Depot
Mandai Depot (Malay: Depot Mandai; Chinese: 万礼车厂) is an integrated train and bus depot located in Mandai, Singapore. The train depot serves as the maintenance and control centre of the Thomson-East Coast line while the bus depot is used for the Sembawang-Yishun Bus Package. The facility is located on a site bounded by Mandai Road, Seletar Expressway and Lorong Lada Hitam, on the former site of Orchidville. The depot is located between Woodlands station and Springleaf station on the Thomson-East Coast Line and has three reception tracks: one track northbound towards Woodlands station and two tracks southbound towards Springleaf station. Jackson Plan
The Jackson Plan or Raffles Town Plan, an urban plan of 1822 titled "Plan of the Town of Singapore", is a proposed scheme for Singapore drawn up to maintain some order in the urban development of the fledgling but thriving colony founded just three years earlier. It was named after Lieutenant Philip Jackson, the colony's engineer and land surveyor tasked to oversee its physical development in accordance with the vision of Stamford Raffles for Singapore, hence it is also commonly called Raffles Town Plan. Raffles gave his instructions in November 1822, the plan was then drawn up in late 1822 or early 1823 and published in 1828. Mandai Road
Mandai Road () is a major road located in Mandai, in the northern area of Singapore. The road starts from Woodlands Road and ends at the junction of Sembawang Road and Upper Thomson Road. The road was built in 1855 in a jungle and appeared in the Franklin and Jackson ''Plan of Singapore'' (1828) as a river indicated as "R. Mandi". It has been said the name of the road comes from a tree known as the "Mandai tree". As the road is the main access to the Singapore Zoo and the Night Safari, it is common to refer to the zoos collectively as the "Mandai Zoo". The Mandai Crematorium and Columbarium is also located in the area, and is the resting places for those honourable leaders, such as Lee Kuan Yew, the former and first Prime Minister of Singapore. Alex Yam Ziming ( zh, c=任梓铭, p=Rèn Zǐmíng; born 1981) is a Singaporean politician who has been serving as Mayor of North West District since 2020.
