Hany Soh
Hany Soh Hui Bin ( zh, s=苏慧敏, p=Sū Huìmǐn; born 1987) is a Singaporean politician and lawyer. A member of the governing People's Action Party (PAP), she has been the Member of Parliament (MP) representing the Woodgrove division of Marsiling–Yew Tee GRC since 2020. Education Soh attended Bendemeer Secondary School under the Normal (Academic) stream before graduating from Temasek Polytechnic after her O Level with a diploma in law and management. She subsequently went on to complete a Bachelor of Laws degree at the University of Liverpool in 2011. Career Legal career Soh joined MSC Law Corporation in 2016 and became its director in 2017. Political career Following her graduation in 2011, Soh had been a volunteer, along with other grassroots members of Bukit Panjang with the support of Teo Ho Pin, Mayor of North West District. Temasek Polytechnic Alumni
Temasek (also spelt Temasik) is an early recorded name of a settlement on the site of modern Singapore. The name appears in early Malay and Javanese literature, and it is also recorded in Yuan and Ming Chinese documents as ''Danmaxi'' ( or ). Two distinct settlements were recorded in Temasek – Long Ya Men and Ban Zu. The name is used in modern-day Singapore for national honours as well as institutions and corporations. Name The origin of the name Temasek is uncertain, but it has been proposed that it was derived from the Malay word ''tasik'' meaning "lake" or "sea", and may mean here "place surrounded by the sea", or Sea Town. Singapore Democratic Party
The Singapore Democratic Party (abbreviation: SDP) is a politcal party in Singapore. The party was founded on 6 August 1980 by Chiam See Tong. During the 1991 general election, Ling How Doong and Cheo Chai Chen won Bukit Gombak SMC and Nee Soon SMC respectively, giving the party a total of three seats in Parliament. When Chiam fell out with the party's Central Executive Committee in 1993 and subsequently left the party in 1996 for the splinter Singapore People's Party (SPP), the party became destabilised. Chiam was succeeded by Chee Soon Juan, who has remained as Secretary-General ever since. A centrist to centre-left political party, the SDP ideologically draw upon both liberalism and social democracy.
