Manada Hill (Manadahill on GNIS records) is an unincorporated community in East Hanover Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, United States, adjoining the census-designated place of Skyline View. The village is bounded to the east by Interstate 81 and along Route 39 at the intersection with Jonestown Road to the north, Manada View Drive to the south and Manada Creek to the east. History Manada Hill is a historic village named for its hilltop location near a bend in the Manada Creek. It was the only true village of the township, containing a post office and a few stores and shops to supply the surrounding neighborhood. Traveling peddlers provided incidental needs before the establishment of the country store. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and locative information about more than two million physical and cultural features throughout the United States and its territories, Antarctica, and the associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau. It is a type of gazetteer. East Hanover Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania
East Hanover Township is a township in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 6,009 at the 2020 census. History The township traces its roots to the founding of the Hanover (Presbyterian) church in 1735. Hanover parish broke off of the Derry parish (modern day Hershey) to serve settlers north of the Swatara Creek. The original church is gone, but the cemetery remains between the village of Grantville and the base of the blue mountain. Hanover Township was later divided into East Hanover, West Hanover, and South Hanover townships. When Lebanon County was formed in 1813, East Hanover Township was partitioned to form East Hanover Township, Lebanon County. The John Todd House was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. Pennsylvania Route 39 (PA 39) is a state highway located in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, United States. PA 39 runs from North Front Street near Harrisburg east to U.S. Route 322 (US 322) and US 422 near Hummelstown and Hershey. The route passes through the northern and eastern suburbs of Harrisburg and passes by Hersheypark, Giant Center, as well as the primary production factory for The Hershey Company. Between Harrisburg and Manada Hill, it is known as Linglestown Road, from Manada Hill to Hershey as Hershey Road and from Hershey to near Hummelstown and Hershey as Hersheypark Drive. Manada Creek is a U.S. Geological Survey. National Hydrography Dataset high-resolution flowline dataThe National Map accessed January 17, 2019 tributary of Swatara Creek in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania in the United States. The watershed drains approximately 32 sq mi (83 km). The name is derived the Lenape word "menatey", meaning "island". Course The creek is born in Blue Mountain at Fort Indiantown Gap, East Hanover Township by the confluence of several branches, flowing southwest. The gap through the mountains which it flows through is known as Manada Gap. Later, it becomes the border of East Hanover and West Hanover townships, continuing to wind through forests and agricultural farmland before spilling into the Swatara Creek along the outskirts of the unincorporated community of Sand Beach. Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course is a thoroughbred horse racing track and casino in Grantville, Pennsylvania, east of Harrisburg. It is owned by Gaming and Leisure Properties and operated by Penn Entertainment. The track opened on August 30, 1972. It consists of a dirt course and a 7-furlong turf course. It is unusual among United States thoroughbred tracks in offering racing 52 weeks a year. It features the $200,000 Pennsylvania Governor's Cup Handicap for horses three-years-old and up run 5 furlongs on the turf. In 2009 Cardashi, ridden by jockey David Cora, won in a 29–1 upset.
