Man Of Ice Awards
The Man of Ice Awards were founded at the end of the 2007-2008 Elite Ice Hockey League season to commend the best in British ice hockey. Categories Seven of the awards were voted for by coaches and captains of the ten Elite League teams. One Award, the Fan's Favourite, is voted for by the fans of Elite League Ice Hockey in the United Kingdom. Team captains voted for Coach of the Year with Paul Thompson winning in the 2007/2008 season. In its founding year, the awards included the following categories: Best British Player, Coach of the Year, Player of the Year, Fan's Favourite, Forward of the Year, Hard as Ice, Newcomer of the Year, Netminder of the Year, and Defenceman of the Year. Elite Ice Hockey League
The Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL), sometimes referred to as the British Elite League or, for sponsorship reasons, the Viaplay Elite League, is an ice hockey league in the United Kingdom. Formed in 2003 following the demise of the Ice Hockey Superleague, it is the highest level of ice hockey competition in the United Kingdom. The league operate three competitions for members; the play-offs determine the national champion for the season, following a regular season league competition for which separate champions are also crowned, and which selects and seeds the teams in the play-offs. Finally, a stand-alone cup competition, the Challenge Cup, is also held annually, beginning with the group stages followed by a knock-out format. Player Of The Year Trophy (IHJUK)
The Player of the Year Trophy is an award given by Ice Hockey Journalists UK (formally the British Ice Hockey Writers Association) to the MVP in the Elite League and the English Premier League at the end of each season. In previous seasons it has been awarded to players in the British Hockey League's Premier and First Divisions, the Super League and the British National League. The trophy was first awarded in 1985. Tony Hand has won the trophy the most times, with a total of six awards. Steve Moria has won three times. Rick Fera, Mark Morrison, Scott Morrison, Lukas Smital and Randy Smith have each won the trophy on two occasions. Trevor Koenig
Trevor Koenig (born 10 December 1974) is a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender. He last played for the Dundee Stars in the UK Elite Ice Hockey League. Koenig was born in Edmonton, Alberta. Koenig currently coaches the Mighty Bulls' U7 and U17 teams. Newcastle Vipers In the summer of 2005 Koenig crossed the Atlantic to join the Newcastle Vipers for their first season in the UK's Elite Ice Hockey League. The season was a huge success for the Vipers as they secured second place in the league and a 2–1 victory over the Sheffield Steelers in the end of season playoff final. Joe Tallari
Joe Tallari (born October 5, 1980) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player. Playing career Tallari was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario. In 2001, Tallari began his career playing for Niagara University where he was team's senior captain. Tallari moved to the Hartford Wolf Pack, the farm team for the New York Rangers. He stayed for just one season before moving to the Johnstown Chiefs of the ECHL, where he topped the 50 point margin. Over the following three seasons, Tallari switched between teams in the ECHL and the AHL, with stints at the Cleveland Barons, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (on two occasions) and the Las Vegas Wranglers. He then moved to Europe, signing with the Manchester Phoenix in the summer of 2007 to play under Tony Hand. Tallari had an outstanding season in Manchester, finishing as the EIHL's second highest goal scorer, managing 55 goals and 38 assists in 59 games. Manchester Phoenix
Manchester Phoenix was a semi professional ice hockey team from Greater Manchester, England. The club was formed in 2003 as a result of the efforts of supporters group ''Friends of Manchester Ice Hockey'' to bring top-level ice hockey back to Manchester after Manchester Storm folded in 2002. The Phoenix team was a founder member of the Elite Ice Hockey League upon its formation in 2003, playing in the 17,500 capacity Manchester Arena. The cost of using such a large facility proved financially untenable, and Phoenix suspended playing operations in 2004 pending the construction of a smaller purpose built ice facility. Construction of the Altrincham Ice Dome commenced in 2006, and the club returned to the Elite League for the 2006–07 season.
