Player Of The Year Trophy (IHJUK)
The Player of the Year Trophy is an award given by Ice Hockey Journalists UK (formally the British Ice Hockey Writers Association) to the MVP in the Elite League and the English Premier League at the end of each season. In previous seasons it has been awarded to players in the British Hockey League's Premier and First Divisions, the Super League and the British National League. The trophy was first awarded in 1985. Tony Hand has won the trophy the most times, with a total of six awards. Steve Moria has won three times. Rick Fera, Mark Morrison, Scott Morrison, Lukas Smital and Randy Smith have each won the trophy on two occasions. Bracknell Bees
The Bees Ice Hockey Club are an ice hockey team from Slough, Berkshire, UK. They compete in the National Ice Hockey League (NIHL) National League, the second tier of English Ice Hockey. History Early years The Bracknell Bees were formed in 1987, under the ownership of John Nike OBE. Bees began life in the Heineken League Division Two, under the leadership of former Durham Wasps and Nottingham Panthers forward, Jamie Crapper, where they finished 6th. The following season, Heineken withdrew their sponsorship of the second division, which was renamed the English League Division 1. Bees narrowly missed out on the championship to the Humberside Seahawks, but then won the league the following season, gaining promotion to the Heineken League Division 1. David Longstaff
David Longstaff (born 26 August 1974) is a British ice hockey forward. He is the Head Coach of the Whitley Warriors of the National Ice Hockey League. After starting his career with his hometown club, Whitley Bay Warriors, Longstaff moved to the Sheffield Steelers in 1995, enjoying several victories and success in a variety of league and play-off games. Longstaff has previously been awarded Young Player of the Year and Superleague Player of the Year. Longstaff then moved to Sweden in 2001, spending one season in the Elitserien with Djurgårdens IF before returning to the UK, signing with the Newcastle Vipers in 2002. He also had brief spells with the Manchester Storm and in Switzerland with HC Sierre-Anniviers. He returned to the Vipers in 2003 before joining the Guildford Flames prior to the 2010/11 season. The Dundee Stars are a professional ice hockey team based in the Scottish city of Dundee. They were formed in 2001 and play their home games at the Dundee Ice Arena, situated off the city's main Kingsway dual carriageway. The current title sponsor of the team is 'Trade-Mart'. Kevin Riehl
Kevin Riehl (born March 11, 1971 in Leader, Saskatchewan) is a Canadian retired ice hockey centre. Career Riehl was drafted 231st overall by the New Jersey Devils in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft, but never managed to play in the NHL. Instead, he played in the International Hockey League for the Cincinnati Cyclones, the American Hockey League for the Utica Devils and Albany River Rats and the East Coast Hockey League for the Birmingham Bulls and the Raleigh IceCaps. Beginning in 1995, Riehl played in Europe, beginning two years in Germany's 2nd Bundesliga for Iserlohner EC where he scored 168 points in 93 games including 85 goals. He then spent two seasons in Italy's Serie A before moving to the United Kingdom in 1999 where he joined the Bracknell Bees of the British Ice Hockey Superleague. Sheffield Steelers
The Sheffield Steelers are a professional ice hockey team located in Sheffield, England. They were formed in 1991 (see 1991 in sport) and play their home games at the Utilita Arena. They are currently a member of the Elite Ice Hockey League. The club's main (title) sponsor is Sheffield Window Centre. History Ice Hockey existed in amateur form in Sheffield, but the sport began its return to an era of arenas and stadium size crowds with the opening of the Sheffield Arena in 1991 and the creation of the Sheffield Steelers — the ice hockey team that was to occupy the new arena. Joel Laing
Joel J. Laing is a Canadian ice hockey coach and former goaltender who was an All-American for Rensselaer. Career After finishing up his junior career, Laing travelled to New York and began attending Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the fall of 1996. He debuted for the ice hockey team as a freshman and shared the starting job with fellow freshman Scott Prekaski. The Engineers finished with a winning record, but neither of their two netminders distinguished themselves as the go-to goalie. It was much the same in Laing's second season, with the sophomore spearing to be heading for a good, but not great, college career. Things began to change in his junior year, however, and Laing began to demonstrate an improvement in net. Edinburgh Capitals
The Edinburgh Capitals are a Scottish ice hockey club, playing in the Scottish National League (SNL). They are based in the Scottish capital, Edinburgh. The team play at the Murrayfield Ice Rink, close to Murrayfield Rugby stadium. In April 2018, a consortium led by David Hand (brother of ex-Racer Tony) won the contract for ice time at Murrayfield, effectively rendering the Capitals homeless. The newly formed Murrayfield Racers applied to join the EIHL and take the Capitals' place but were rejected, plunging the future of top level ice hockey in the city into jeopardy. Jason Ruff
Jason C. Ruff (born January 27, 1970) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. Career Ruff was the third pick, 96th overall selection of the St. Louis Blues in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft. The following year, he was part of the WHL East First All-Star Team. Ruff is a graduate of the Western Hockey League, where he spent four seasons as a member of the Lethbridge Hurricanes before joining the NHL with St. Louis Blues and later Tampa Bay Lightning. Ruff has played for the Belfast Giants since the 2001–2002 season, with one year sojourns to Ingolstadt in the DEL (2002–2003) and Kansas City Outlaws (2004–2005). Neal Martin (ice Hockey)
Neal Martin (born September 8, 1975 in Sudbury, Ontario) is a Canadian retired ice hockey defenceman Career Martin began his Major Junior career with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the OHL, having been selected in the 5th round, 79th overall, in the 1992 OHL Priority Selection Draft. Martin played sparingly in his first season with the Greyhounds, logging only 17 regular season games. The team had an extended run in the play-offs, before losing the finals to the Peterborough Petes. Nevertheless, they qualified as hosts for the 1993 Memorial Cup, which they subsequently won. Romford Raiders
The Raiders are an ice hockey team based in Romford, participating in the National Division of the National Ice Hockey League (NIHL), the second tier of British ice hockey. They were known as the Romford Raiders when they were based at the Romford Ice Arena in the London Borough of Havering. They were founder members of the English Premier Ice Hockey League but have competed in the NIHL since 2012. Their development team was the Romford Spitfires, which played in Division 2 of the NIHL before being succeeded in 2009/10 by the Romford Fury. Theoren Wallace "Theo" Fleury (born June 29, 1968) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player, author, and motivational speaker. Fleury played for the Calgary Flames, Colorado Avalanche, New York Rangers, and Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League (NHL), Tappara of Finland's SM-liiga, and the Belfast Giants of the UK's Elite Ice Hockey League.
