Malta In The Eurovision Song Contest 1993
Malta took part at the Eurovision Song Contest 1993 in Millstreet, Ireland. Their entry was singer William Mangion with the song "This Time". Before Eurovision National final The final was held on 13 March 1993 at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta, hosted by John Demanuele and Marija Bugeja. The songs were firstly performed in Maltese, then in English. Only the top 3 were announced. At Eurovision William Mangion performed 8th on the night of the contest, following Belgium and preceding Iceland. At the close of the voting the song had received 66 points, placing 8th of 25. William Mangion (born 24 August 1958 in Naxxar) is a Maltese singer, best known for presenting Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest 1993 The Eurovision Song Contest 1993 was the 38th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Millstreet, Ireland, following the country's victory at the with the song " Why Me?" by Linda Martin. Mangion took part in the semi-final of the Malta Song for Europe 2007 for Eurovision with the song "Forever Mine", but he finished 10th out of 16 and failed to qualify for the final. Millstreet () is a town in north County Cork, Ireland, with a population of 1,555 (as of 2016). Millstreet is within the civil parish of Drishane, and within a Poor Law Union also called Millstreet. The Mediterranean Conference Centre (MCC, mt, Dar il-Mediterran għall-Konferenzi) is a Convention center, conference centre in Valletta, Malta. The building was built as a hospital in the 16th century by the Knights Hospitaller, Order of St. John, and it was known as the Sacra Infermeria or the Holy Infirmary ( mt, Il-Furmarija). Renato Micallef (born 19 November 1951) is a Maltese pop singer. His full name is Nazzareno Alessandro Micallef Garrett. Renato has been active in the Maltese music scene since the age of 12. Renato has toured North America, Australia and the United Kingdom where his website claims he won an award for Singer Of The Year in 1980.
