Malmö Lokaltrafik
Malmö Lokaltrafik (ML) was a public transport bus company operating in the municipality and city of Malmö, Sweden. It was formed from the bus services of City of Malmö tramways (MSS) in the 1970s as the tram network in Malmö was being closed. In 1989 a completely new route network and schedule was introduced and received harsh criticism from the public. The tight schedule was often impossible to keep, thereby causing significant delays. This forced a lot of changes both in routes and schedules. In 1993, Malmö Lokaltrafik was sold to the private company Linjebuss, because it was decided to let the actual operation and ownership of buses be done by private companies. As part of this deal Linjebuss was also awarded the initial contract for the city bus operations. The brand name for the buses became Länstrafiken Malmöhus, which was still owned by the regional assembly. The Malmö tramway network was a tram network that existed as a public transit system in Malmö, Sweden in some extent from 1887 until 1973. In 1987 a new route of about was built as a Heritage streetcar, historic line, which remains in operation today. History The tramway operated between 1887 and 1973. It started service as a horsecar. The horsecars were replaced by electric trams starting in December 1906, with the last horses being retired in February 1907. With the Dagen H, introduction of right-hand traffic in 1967 most tram lines were withdrawn and replaced by buses, although line 4 to Sibbarp remained until April 27 1973. Skånetrafiken is the regional public transit district in Skåne län, in the south of Sweden. Skånetrafiken was founded in 1999 when the two counties Kristianstads län and Malmöhus län were merged into one region, causing the two respective transport authorities for each previous county to be amalgamated. Presently, Skånetrafiken is a part of the regional government of Region Skåne. The main office is located in Hässleholm with a second office in Lund. The managing director of Skånetrafiken is Magnus Hedin. Public transport services Skånetrafiken organise train services on several lines within Skåne, called Pågatåg, which are currently delivered under contract by Arriva.
