Malmö City Theatre () in Malmö, Sweden, is the main theatre of Malmö. History The first theatre in Malmö, Malmö Teater, was built in 1808 but became out of use in 1938. The Malmö City Theatre was built by the architect Sigurd Lewerentz between 1932 and 1944. From its opening in 1944 and until 1992 it was one of Sweden's leading city theatres. From the 1950s it was run by director Ingmar Bergman who staged a number of memorable and important productions with an ensemble which included popular "Bergman-actors" such as Bibi Andersson, Harriet Andersson, Gunnel Lindblom, Max von Sydow, Naima Wifstrand, Gertrud Fridh and Ingrid Thulin. Gertrud Fridh
Gertrud Fridh (26 November 1921 – 11 October 1984) was a Swedish stage and film actress. Biography Born in Gothenburg, Fridh later studied acting at Gothenburg City Theatre's acting school from 1941 to 1944. She worked in the 1940s and 1950s at the city theatres in Gothenburg and Malmö. At the latter she came in contact with director Ingmar Bergman who directed her on stage and later would cast her in strong parts in some of his most memorable films, including '' Wild Strawberries'' (1957), '' The Magician / The Face'' (1958), '' The Devil's Eye'' (1960), '' All These Women'' (1964) and ''Hour of the Wolf'' (1967). Malmö Symphony Orchestra
The Malmö Symphony Orchestra () is a Swedish orchestra, based in Malmö. Since 2015, it has been resident at the Malmö Live Concert Hall. The orchestra has a complement of 94 musicians. History The orchestra was founded in 1925 with Walther Meyer-Radon as the first chief conductor, from 1925 to 1929. At first, the orchestra performed both symphony concerts and served as the orchestra of the Malmö Opera and Music Theatre. Ingrid Lilian Thulin (; 27 January 1926 – 7 January 2004) was a Swedish actress and director who collaborated with filmmaker Ingmar Bergman. She was often cast as harrowing and desperate characters, and earned acclaim from both Swedish and international critics. Naima Wifstrand
Naima Wifstrand (; 4 September 1890 – 23 October 1968) was a Swedish film actress, operetta singer, troubadour, List of opera directors, director and composer. In her later years, she was cast in several supporting roles in Ingmar Bergman films. Biography Born Siri Naima Matilda Wifstrand in Stockholm in 1890, she was raised by her mother in Fleminggatan. Wifstrand never trained acting but learned the art thoroughly when she in 1905 joined the Anna Lundberg Theatre Company, a well reputed and respected theatre company in Sweden at the time.
