Maldivian (horse)
Maldivian (foaled 20 October 2002) was a New Zealand bred Thoroughbred racemare, trained by Mark Kavanagh, who is notable for winning the 2008 Cox Plate and two other Group 1 races. Sir Patrick & Lady Justine Hogan bred Maldivian from the American mare Shynzi, by the leading sire Zabeel. He was exported to Australia in April 2004. Zabeel
Zabeel (25 October 1986 – 25 September 2015) was a New Zealand-bred racehorse who predominantly raced in Australia. He was retired to stud and became a champion sire. He is a bay son of Sir Tristram (IRE) from the Nureyev mare Lady Giselle. During his racing career, he won seven races, including the Moonee Valley Stakes in 1989 and the Australian Guineas, the Alister Clark Stakes, and the Craiglee Stakes in 1990. After retiring to stud in 1991, he sired 153 individual stakes winners of 350 stakes races, including Vengeance of Rain, who won the Dubai Sheema Classic and holds the earnings record in Hong Kong. Zabeel has also sired the Australian champions Octagonal and Might And Power, who won 17 Group One races between them, including the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups, two Cox Plates, three runnings of the Mercedes Classic, and the Sydney three-year-old triple crown. The Thoroughbred is a horse breed best known for its use in horse racing. Although the word ''thoroughbred'' is sometimes used to refer to any breed of purebred horse, it technically refers only to the Thoroughbred breed. Thoroughbreds are considered " hot-blooded" horses that are known for their agility, speed, and spirit. Caulfield Cup
The Caulfield Cup is a Melbourne Racing Club Group 1 Thoroughbred horse race held under handicap conditions, although the Melbourne Racing Club is in the process of turning the race into weight for age (WFA) conditions. This is for all horses aged three years old and older. It takes place over a distance of 2400 metres at the Caulfield Racecourse, Melbourne, Australia in mid October. The prize money is A$5,000,000. History The race has become one of Australia's richest Thoroughbred horse races. The race is held annually on the third Saturday in October, the third day and final day of the Caulfield Carnival. Zipping (horse)
Zipping (24 September 2001 – 22 March 2022) was an Australian champion racehorse who was notable for winning the prestigious Sandown Classic race in four consecutive years. Racing history Zipping won his first Sandown Classic in 2007, defeating Jukebox Johnny, and Baughurst as a 6-year-old. The following year as $3.20 favourite he won a second Classic in defeating Douro Valley and Red Ruler, by 0.2 lengths. In 2009 Zipping made it three on end with his victory over the Peter Snowden trained Purple, and the 2007 Caulfield Cup winner Master O'Reilly. In 2010 Zipping in a five horse field including the David Jones Handicap winner the kiwi Ginga Dude, won his 4th Sandown Classic by 2 lengths defeating Exceptionally and Manighar. Miss Finland (horse)
Miss Finland is a champion Australian Thoroughbred racehorse. She is a bay mare sired by Redoute's Choice out of Forest Pearl, who was a daughter of The Oaks winner Moonshell. Miss Finland was trained by top South Australian trainer David Hayes. At the age of two years, she won the AAMI Golden Slipper, the world's richest juvenile race, which is run over 1,200 metres, and ran second in the Blue Diamond Stakes. As a three-year-old, her stellar form continued, which saw her win the Crown VRC Oaks, run over 2,500 metres at Flemington during the Melbourne Cup Carnival, as well as further Group One wins in the Thousand Guineas, Australian Guineas and Arrowfield Stud Stakes. Master O'Reilly
Master O'Reilly (2002–2013) was a New Zealand bred race horse trained by Judy Mawer. He was the 2007 winner of the Caulfield Cup when ridden by Vlad Duric. In October 2007, Master O'Reilly was penalized 1.5 kg by Racing Victoria Limited prior to the Melbourne Cup, one of the highest penalties given in recent years. Although the penalty placed him 26th among a field of 24 horses, he was nevertheless guaranteed a start and went on to win the Caulfield Cup later that week. He was well supported in the Melbourne Cup, starting favourite, but he finished a disappointing eighth behind Efficient. The C F Orr Stakes is a Melbourne Racing Club Group 1 Thoroughbred horse race at Weight for Age, run over a distance of 1400 metres at Caulfield Racecourse, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia in February. Sir Tristram
Sir Tristram (IRE) (7 April 1971 – 21 May 1997) was an Irish-bred Thoroughbred racehorse who stood at stud in New Zealand, where he sired an extraordinary 45 Group One winners, including three Melbourne Cup winners. His progeny earned him 17 official Leading Australasian sire premierships, plus nine broodmare sire titles. Background Sir Tristram was by the outstanding racehorse and sire Sir Ivor (by Sir Gaylord) out of Isolt (by Round Table), and had 19 starts for two wins in France. The Might and Power, registered as the Caulfield Stakes is a Melbourne Racing Club Group 1 Thoroughbred horse race run under weight-for-age conditions, for three-year-olds and upwards, run over a distance of 2,000 metres at Caulfield Racecourse, Melbourne, Australia. Prizemoney is A$1,000,000. History The race is held annually in October on Caulfield Guineas day, the first day of the MRC Spring Carnival. The conditions of the race in regard to distance and WFA is similar to the W. S. Cox Plate, held a fortnight after the Caulfield Stakes, and many Cox Plate contenders will use this race as a preparatory race. During World War II the race was run at Flemington Racecourse. The 2016 edition of the race attracted only three entries, the smallest ever G1 race in Australia with champion mare Winx scaring off potential rivals.
