Malcolm Le Maistre
Malcolm Le Maistre (born 21 March 1949) is an English people, English musician, experimental artist and theatre director, who was a member of The Incredible String Band in the 1970s. He was born in England, his father a France, French born journalist and his mother an United States, American writer. After they split up, he attended boarding school in Surrey, where he developed an interest in experimental theatre. U (album)
''U'' is a double album, the seventh studio album overall, by the British psychedelic folk group the Incredible String Band (ISB) and was released on Elektra Records in October 1970. The majority of the material featured on the album was taken from the mixed-media production of the same name, which saw the band backed by the dancing troupe the Stone Monkey. The concept of ''U'' derived from the ISB's fascination and subsequent conversion to Scientology in 1969. Although the show, along with the songs, were seen as ambitious, ''U'' was a commercial failure for the ISB. The Enid
The Enid are a British progressive rock band founded by keyboardist and composer Robert John Godfrey. Godfrey received his main musical education from The Royal College of Music. He is previously known for his work with Barclay James Harvest, and as a recording artist on the Charisma label. In 2014, he won the Visionary Award (Progressive Music Awards) for establishing an early fan based crowdfunding model to finance the band named The Stand. In 1973, Godfrey, together with friends Francis Lickerish, Stephen Stewart and David Williams founded The Enid. They had all met at the famous experimental educational establishment, Finchden Manor. ''Hard Rope & Silken Twine'' is the twelfth and final album released by The Incredible String Band. It was released in 1974. It was fitting that their final track "Ithkos" was 20 minutes of several compositions. These ranging from Greek roots, to their strongest genre, folk, then progressive rock, and ending with the addition of synthesizers. Such lengthy compositions were common for the band during their heyday. Overall the album contains folk songs mixed with progressive rock influence. These attempts at changing the band's sound proved to be unsuccessful because, after disappointing sales, the band was dropped from its label. Musical differences created continuing turmoil that led to the band dissolving by October of the same year.
