Malcolm A. Moody
Malcolm Adelbert Moody (November 30, 1854 – March 19, 1925) was an American businessman and politician who served two terms as a Republican U.S. congressman from Oregon from 1899 to 1903. Early life Moody was born near Brownsville in the Oregon Territory in 1854, the eldest child of future Oregon governor Zenas Ferry Moody and his wife, Mary Stevenson Moody. The Moody family moved to Illinois the following year, and then back to Oregon in 1862, settling in The Dalles. Malcolm Moody attended the public schools and then the University of California, Berkeley. He joined his father's mercantile business and worked at The Dalles National Bank. Political career Moody was elected to The Dalles city council in 1885, and mayor in 1889, serving two terms. Rorick House Museum
The Rorick House Museum, also known as the Malcolm A. Moody House, is a museum located in The Dalles, Oregon, United States. The building was originally built in 1850 as a two-room residence for non-commissioned officers from Fort Dalles, this is the oldest remaining house in The Dalles. It was subsequently occupied by U.S. Representative Malcolm A. Moody, and has ultimately become a museum. The house is the current headquarters for the Wasco County Historical Society. William Smith (Oregon Politician)
William Smith was an American lawyer and politician who served as a Populist member of the Oregon Senate from 1899 until 1903. He was also the Fusion ( Democratic and Populist) nominee for Oregon's 2nd congressional district in 1900. Smith lost to incumbent Republican Malcolm A. Moody in a four-way race, receiving 32% of the vote. He practiced law with the firm Hart & Smith from 1904 until 1906. In April 1903, Smith was appointed to the Board of Regents of the University of Oregon by Governor George E. Chamberlain, and was still serving as late as 1915. Oregon's 2nd Congressional District
Oregon's 2nd congressional district is the largest of Oregon's six districts, and is the seventh largest district in the nation. It is the second-largest congressional district in the nation that does not cover an entire state. The district covers roughly two-thirds of the state, east of the Willamette Valley. It includes all of Baker, Crook, Deschutes, Gilliam, Grant, Harney, Hood River, Jackson, Jefferson, Klamath, Lake, Malheur, Morrow, Sherman, Umatilla, Union, Wallowa, Wasco, Wheeler counties, and part of eastern Josephine county, including some of the Grants Pass area. The district had been represented by Republican Greg Walden since 1999. Walden did not run for re-election in 2020.
