The Malaysian Friendship and Trade Centre ( ms, Pusat Persahabatan dan Perdagangan Malaysia; ) is the representative office of Malaysia in Taiwan in the absence of diplomatic relations. In 1974, Malaysia established diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China, leading to the closure of the Malaysian Consulate-General in Taipei. An office of Malaysia Airlines in Taipei represented Malaysia's interests in Taiwan until 1982. Songshan District is a district of Taipei, Taiwan. The Songshan Airport and the Taipei Arena are located here. History Songshan was originally named Malysyakkaw, a lowland Ketagalan word meaning "Where the river twists". Its written form () was abbreviated () in 1815 during Qing rule. Malaysia's foreign ministry started in 1956 - a year before the country's independence - when Malaysia's Father of Independence established its offices at the Sultan Abdul Samad Building in Kuala Lumpur.
