Malaysia Federal Route 218
Federal Route 218, or Jalan Lama Bentong–Raub, is a federal road in Pahang, Malaysia. The roads connects Raub, Pahang, Raub in the north to Bentong in the south. This stretch used to be a part of Malaysia Federal Route 8, Federal Route 8. The Kilometre Zero (KM0) of the Federal Route 218 starts at Bentong. History The route was first constructed in 1887 as part of the Kuala Kubu Bharu-The Gap-Kuala Lipis road, where a southern extension was built from Teranum to Bentong in 1915, which became the first section of what was later part of the original Malaysia Federal Route 8, Federal Route 8 to be built. The Bentong-Teranum-Raub section was then bypassed by straighter super two highway running through FELDA Lurah Bilut, causing this old, winding section to be re-gazetted as the Federal Route 218. Raub, Pahang
Raub () is a town in Raub District, Pahang, Malaysia. Raub is one of the oldest towns in Pahang. History Raub was explored and founded in the 18th century. It is historically a gold mining settlement, and the gold mining industry is now undergoing something of a resurgence as the gold price has risen. According to the history, this mining centre was named Raub after a group of miners found a handful of gold in every tray of sand they dig. This is described by J.A. Richardson in his book, ''The Geology and Mineral Resources of the Neighbourhood of Raub Pahang''. According to him (page 36), "People found that for every "''dulang''" of sand there was a handful (''raub'') of gold". The old folks' tale recounts that in the early 19th century, an old man and his two sons discovered gold every time they scooped up the earth in Raub. Federal Route 55 or Jalan Kuala Kubu Bharu–Teranum–Raub (also called Jalan Pahang in Kuala Kubu Bharu) is a 62-km federal road connecting the states of Selangor and Pahang in Malaysia. It is the first federal road ever constructed in Pahang. The road connects Kuala Kubu Bharu, Selangor to Teranum near Raub in Pahang where it meets Federal Route 218. It is the main access route to Fraser's Hill. The Federal Route 8, also known as the Kuala Lumpur–Kota Bharu Highway ( Malay: ''Jalan Kuala Lumpur–Kota Bharu''), is a 402.7-km federal highway in Malaysia. It connects Bentong in the south to Kota Bharu in the north. The highway had two parts - Kota Bharu–Kuala Krai Road (Malay: ''Jalan Kota Bharu–Kuala Krai'') and Bentong–Kuala Lipis Road (Malay: ''Jalan Bentong–Kuala Lipis'') until the completion of the missing link from Kuala Krai to Kuala Lipis, causing the entire FT8 highway to take 99 years to be completed. Bentong (Jawi alphabet, Jawi: ﺑﻨﺘﻮڠ), the seat of Bentong District, is a town located in western Pahang, Malaysia, at the border with the state of Selangor in the west and the state of Negeri Sembilan in the south.
