Malayan Film Unit
The National Film Department of Malaysia ( ms, Filem Negara Malaysia), abbreviated FNM, sometimes ''Jabatan Filem Negara'' (JFN) or informally the Malaysian Film Unit; was a Malaysian state-owned film organization. It is the country's first film studio and the government department under the Malaysian Ministry of Communications and Multimedia, which was responsible for the filming and documentation of national events as well as producing factual and unscripted contents. In its heyday, FNM became the country's most prominent film agency. Its corporate emblem features a jumping Malayan tiger, which was synonymous with the agency and its headquarters were located in Petaling Jaya, Selangor. Among the main functions of FNM was to spread the information about the policy, programme and achievement of the government and to promote the country through the films produced. The Singapore Free Press
''The Singapore Free Press'' was an English-language daily broadsheet newspaper based in Singapore. History The paper was founded as Singapore's second English-language newspaper by William Napier, Edward Boustead, Walter Scott Lorrain and George Drumgoole Coleman on 1 October 1835 as the ''Singapore Free Press & Mercantile Advertiser''. Napier edited the paper from foundation until 1846 when he returned to Scotland. Abraham Logan took over the paper in 1846 running the ''Free Press'' for the next twenty years. His brother, James Richardson Logan, ran the '' Penang Gazette'' which produced cross-pollination of copy between the two papers and a mutual dislike of the East India Company. The ''Free Press'', by then edited by Jonas Daniel Vaughan, remained in circulation until 1869 when increased competition from ''The Straits Times'' led to its closure. Kuching (), officially the City of Kuching, is the capital and the most populous city in the States and federal territories of Malaysia, state of Sarawak in Malaysia. The ''New Straits Times'' is an English-language newspaper published in Malaysia. It is Malaysia's oldest newspaper still in print (though not the first), having been founded as ''The Straits Times'' on 15 July 1845. It was relaunched as the ''New Straits Times'' on 13 August 1974. The paper served as Malaysia's only broadsheet format English-language newspaper. However, following the example of British newspapers ''The Times'' and ''The Independent'', a tabloid version first rolled off the presses on 1 September 2004 and since 18 April 2005, the newspaper has been published only in tabloid size, ending a 160-year-old tradition of broadsheet publication.
