Makutano is a settlement in Kenya's Kirinyaga County. Location The town is located where the Nairobi-Embu Road splits from the Nairobi- Nyeri Road, approximately , northeast of Nairobi, the capital and largest city in the country. The coordinates of Makutano are: 0°45'24.0"S, 37°16'44.0"E (Latitude:-0.756663; Longitude:37.278887). Overview At the beginning of 2016, a dual carriage highway through Makutano, referred to as the ''Kenol–Makutano–Sagana–Marua Highway'', part of the greater Cape to Cairo Road, was considered. The Tana Hydroelectric Power Station is located southwest of Makutano. Kirinyaga County
Kirinyaga County is a county in the former Central Province of Kenya. Its capital is Kerugoya and its largest town is Wanguru. In 2019, the county had a population of 610,411 and an area of 1,478.1 km2. The county is bordered to the east and south by Embu County, to the south by a tiny part of Machakos County, to the southwest by Murang'a County and to the northwest by Nyeri County. Kirinyaga county lies between 1158 and 5199 meters above sea level; its highest point is the summit of Mount Kenya. Since the 2010 Constitution Kirinyaga County was led by Governor from 2013-2017 then Anne Waiguru who was elected for her first term in 2017 and re-elected in the 2022 General Elections. Embu is a city located approximately northeast of Nairobi towards Mount Kenya. Embu served as the provincial capital of the former Eastern Province and currently serves as the headquarters of the Eastern Region in Kenya. It is also the county headquarters of Embu County. Nyeri is a town situated in the Central Highlands of Kenya. It is the county headquarters of Nyeri County. The Tana Hydroelectric Power Station is a hydroelectric power station on the Tana River in southern Kenya. Overview The first power station on the site, drawing water from the Mathioya River was built in 1931. It was extended in 1955, drawing water from the Tana River, with capacity of 14.4MW, but generating only 10.4MW at time of decommissioning in 2007.
