Maks Baće
Maksimilijan "Maks" Baće, nom de guerre Milić (12 December 1914, Pakoštane – 4 December 2005, Split, Croatia, Split), was a Yugoslavia, Yugoslav and Croats, Croatian revolutionary. Biography Born in Pakoštane (near Zadar) and raised in Split, he studied philosophy in Zagreb, became a student organizer and a member of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia in 1934. While a student, for his anti-state activities, he was convicted and imprisoned for six months in Belgrade. After graduating in 1937 he left for Spain where he took part in the Spanish Civil War on the Second Spanish Republic, Republican side until its conclusion. He was wounded twice, and after the republican defeat interned in Southern France and Germany where he was forced to work in a Nazi airplane factory. He escaped and returned to Zagreb in the summer of 1941. World War II Experience gained in Spain proved valuable after the Axis invasion of Yugoslavia in 1941. Pakoštane
Pakoštane is a village and municipality in Croatia, located in Zadar County. It is a tourist town with many gravel beaches and pine woods. Geography To the north of the town lies the Lake Vrana Nature Park, a popular picnic spot teeming with freshwater fish. Further north of the lake, 6 km from Pakoštane, is the historic settlement of Vrana. Independent State Of Croatia
The Independent State of Croatia (, NDH) was a World War II–era puppet state of Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy (1922–1943), Fascist Italy. It was established in parts of Axis occupation of Yugoslavia, occupied Yugoslavia on 10 April 1941, after invasion of Yugoslavia, the invasion by the Axis powers. An airdrop is a type of airlift in which items including weapons, equipment, humanitarian aid or leaflets are delivered by military or civilian aircraft without their landing. Developed during World War II to resupply otherwise inaccessible troops, themselves often airborne forces, airdrops can also refer to the airborne assault itself. History Early airdrops were conducted by dropping or pushing padded bundles from aircraft. Later, small crates fitted with parachutes were pushed out of aircraft side cargo doors. Later, cargo aircraft were designed with rear access ramps, lowerable in flight, that allowed large platforms to be rolled out the back. Vis (island)
Vis () is a Croatian island in the Adriatic Sea. It is the farthest inhabited island off the Croatian mainland. Before the end of World War I, the island was held by the Liburnians, the Republic of Venice, the Napoleonic Kingdom of Italy (Napoleonic), Kingdom of Italy, and the Austrian Empire. During the 19th century, the sea to the north of Vis was the site of two naval battles. Biokovo
Biokovo () is the second-highest mountain range in Croatia, located along the Dalmatian coast of the Adriatic Sea, between the rivers of Cetina and Neretva. It is sometimes referred to as ''Bijakova'', especially among inhabitants of the eastern side of the mountain. Its highest peak is Sveti Jure (Saint George), at 1762 m.a.s.l. Sinj () is a List of cities and towns in Croatia, town in the continental part of Split-Dalmatia County, Croatia.
