MakFest ( mk, МакФест) founded in 1986, is the largest festival of Macedonian popular music. It is held every year in November, in Štip, Republic of North Macedonia, at the Cultural Center "Aco Šopov" ( mk, Дом на Културата "Ацо Шопов"). MakFest is a member of FIDOF (International Federation of Festival Organizations) with headquarters in Los Angeles, CA, USA. Štip
Štip ( mk, Штип ) is the largest urban agglomeration in the eastern part of North Macedonia, serving as the economic, industrial, entertainment and educational focal point for the surrounding municipalities. ''Magija'' ( en, Magic) is the eighth studio album by Serbian recording artist Jelena Karleuša, released on 22 February 2005 under City Records. It contains ten song, mostly covers by other oriental performers, which were recorded between June and December 2004. The record, which features samples from dance, electronic, oriental and Greek laïko music, is generally categorized as pop. In February 2004, Karleuša participated in the Beovizija music festival with "Moli me" featuring Marcus, placing 11th out of 28 entries. ''Magija'' was promoted with two music videos for the songs "Upravo ostavljena" and "Slatka mala", which were condemned by religious groups and conservatives for the " sacrilegious" use of Christian symbols and for promoting homosexuality by displaying drag queens. Risto Samardžiev
Risto Samardžiev (Macedonian: Ристо Самарџиев), born 17 August 1964 in Skopje, is a Macedonian singer and songwriter. He started his musical career when he was 16 years old. He formed the Cilindar group in 1981, which was one of the first New Wave rock bands in the Socialist Republic of Macedonia. He was also the frontman of New Romantic group Haos in Laos. In 1987 he was invited to perform on MakFest, the largest music festival in the country. The song he performed, Chilli Willi (Чили Вили) then became a hit in Macedonia. After that performance he continued to work independently, appearing in festivals as well as in bands (such as Memorija.) He has won MakFest four times as a performer, and has also written songs for other singers.
