Maids Of The Mountain Hockey Club
Maids of the Mountain Hockey Club was a women's field hockey club based in Rathfarnham, South Dublin, Ireland. The club was founded in 1918 and was originally based in Foxrock. Maids of the Mountain were closely associated with Three Rock Rovers Hockey Club. The club was founded by a group of women, the majority of whom were the wives, widows, partners, sisters or children of Three Rock Rovers players. The clubs also shared grounds and eventually merged in 1999. In 1923 Maids of the Mountain completed a national cup double, winning both the Irish Senior Cup and the Irish Junior Cup. History Early years Maids of the Mountain Hockey Club was founded in 1918. The prime mover in establishing the club was Hilda O'Reilly who subsequently captained the Ireland women's national field hockey team during the 1920s. Hockey Ireland, previously known as the Irish Hockey Association, is the governing body for field hockey in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Queen's University Hockey Club
Queen's University Hockey Club Men's Section was formed at Queen's in the latter part of the nineteenth century. The Belfast News Letter reported the Ulster Hockey Union AGM of 19 September 1808 and recorded that "a committee meeting was held afterwards when Queen's College Hockey Club was admitted to membership." Queen's was known as a 'College' until it was granted its Charter as a University in 1908. Members are given a "years grace" in their playing career, to allow them to play one more season after they have left academic study at the University. In 2016-17 the first team plays in Section 1 of the Ulster Senior League. Past In 1911-12 Queen's University were the first club from Ulster to win the Irish Senior Cup on the field of play - Banbridge were awarded the Cup in 1907 when their opponents refused to travel to Ulster to play a Replay. Vera McWeeney
Vera McWeeney (21 July 1909 – 9 January 1981) was an Irish hockey and tennis player, and sports journalist. Early life and family Vera McWeeney was born Veronica Mary Elizabeth Mahony in Blarney, County Cork on 21 July 1909. She was the youngest of the three children of Francis Walter Mahony and his second wife, Mary ("May") (née Ashlin). Her father was managing director of the family business Martin Mahony & Bros Ltd. She married sports journalist, Arthur McWeeney in 1940. The couple had one daughter and one son. Their son, Myles McWeeney, became a television executive at RTÉ. Sports career McWeeney moved to Dublin in her youth, taking up hockey with Maids of the Mountain Hockey Club, with the team winning the Irish Senior Cup in 1930 and 1935. She won her first interprovincial cap for Leinster in 1927, and in 1932 her first Ireland cap. Templeogue () is a southwestern suburb of Dublin in Ireland. It lies between the River Poddle and River Dodder, and is about halfway from Dublin's centre to the mountains to the south. Ringsend
Ringsend () is a Southside (Dublin), southside inner suburb of Dublin, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. It is located on the south bank of the River Liffey and east of the River Dodder, about two kilometres east of the city centre. It is the southern terminus of the East-Link (Dublin), East Link Toll Bridge. Athlone
Athlone (; ) is a town on the border of County Roscommon and County Westmeath, Ireland. It is located on the River Shannon near the southern shore of Lough Ree. Pegasus Hockey Club is a women's field hockey club based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The club enter teams in the Women's Irish Hockey League, the Irish Senior Cup, the Irish Junior Cup and the Ulster Shield. Pegasus has also represented Ireland in European competitions. Pegasus was founded in 1961 by students and teachers from the Ulster College of Physical Education, Jordanstown and Stranmillis University College. The Taoiseach is the head of government, or prime minister, of Republic of Ireland, Ireland.
