Mai River
The Mai Khola is a river in eastern Nepal, the headwater of the Kankai River. Its water is used for irrigation and also powers several hydroelectric plants. Location The Mai Khola is the main tributary of the Kankai River. It is a perennial river that originates in springs in the Mahabharat Range about above sea level. It flows from north to south. Major tributaries include the Jog Mai Khola and Puwa Khola. At its confluence with the Deb Mai Khola, it takes the name of Kankai Mai River, and when it enters the Jhapa District it becomes the Kankai River. The catchment area of the Mai Khola upstream from the Kankai Mai River at Chepte is , and lies entirely within the Ilam District. Kankai Mai
The Kankai River ( ne, कन्काई नदी, also referred to as Kankai Mai or Mai Khola) is a trans-boundary river flowing through the hills of Ilam District, Ilam and the plains of the Jhapa District in Nepal. A holy river for many Hindus living nearby, the Kotihom river bank is a common site for Indian rituals after death, death rituals. Mai Hydropower Station
Sanima Mai Hydropower Station is a run-of-the-river hydroelectric power station with an installed capacity of 22 MW. This power station is located at Gunmune and Chisapani VDC in Ilam district of Nepal. Construction began in 2010 and all major works were completed by October 2014. However, the power station was not operational at the time due to an unfinished transmission line. The plant became fully operational on February 26, 2015. The plant is operated by Sanima Mai Hydropower Limited, a public company developing various hydropower projects in Nepal.
