Mahtra Peasant Museum
The Mahtra Peasant Museum ( et, Mahtra Talurahvamuuseum) is located in Rapla Parish in Rapla County, Estonia. It is a national institution of the Estonian Ministry of Culture and a national museum. In its charter, the main objectives of the museum are as follows: "to collect, study, and preserve information and objects of cultural value relating to the history and culture of Rapla County, and to make it available to the public for the purposes of research, education, and general interest." Juuru (german: Jörden) is a small borough ( et, alevik) in Rapla Parish, Rapla County, Estonia. From 1991 until 2017 (until the administrative reform of Estonian local governments), Juuru was the administrative center of Juuru Parish Juuru Parish ( et, Juuru vald) is a former Estonian municipality located in Rapla County. Rapla County ( et, Rapla maakond or ''Raplamaa'') is one of the fifteen counties of Estonia. It is situated in the western part of the country and borders Järva County to the east, Pärnu County to the south, Lääne County to the west, and Harju County to the north. Folk Museum

Many folk museums are also open-air museums and some cover rural history. History The concept of open-air museums originated in Scandinavia in the late 19th century. The Swedish folklorist Artur Hazelius founded what was to become the Nordic Museum in 1873 to house an ethnographic collection of peasant furniture, clothes, tools, toys and other objects. He later set up the open-air museum Skansen in Stockholm in 1891, where he erected about 150 houses and farmsteads from all over Sweden, transporting them piece by piece and rebuilding them to provide a unique picture of traditional Sweden. Mahtra War
Mahtra War ( et, Mahtra sõda) was a peasant insurgency at the Mahtra estate (now in Rapla County, 60 km from Tallinn) in Estonia, in the then Russian Empire in May–July 1858. The revolt was suppressed using the regular army, 14 peasants were wounded and 7 killed on site, 3 died later of wounds. The military casualties included 13 soldiers wounded and 1 officer killed. 60 of 65 peasant defendants were sentenced to death by a court-martial in Tallinn. Baltic governor-general Alexander Arkadyevich Suvorov, Suvorov later reduced the sentences of 44 peasants to corporal punishment, 35 of whom were sentenced to exile in Siberia, while the remaining 21 defendants were set free.
