Mahato
Mahto or Mahato is a surname used by several castes and communities in the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Odisha in India. Mahato is also a popular surname in Nepal. In the zamindari villages, "Mahto" was a title given to the headman of a village ward. The mahto's duties were to maintain peace in his area, and collect revenue for the ''zamindar'' (feudal landlord). In Chotanagpur plateau region of Jharkhand, including in the Oraon tribal society, Mahato was historically a title of the village chief. Binod Bihari Mahato
Binod Bihari Mahato (23 September 1923 – 18 December 1991) was an advocate and politician. He established Shivaji Samaj, a social reform organisation among the Kudumi Mahato people. He was the founder of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, established in 1972. He was a leader of the movement for the establishment of the separate state of Jharkhand. He was a member of Bihar Vidhan Sabha three times, in 1980, 1985 and 1990, and a member of the Lok Sabha from Giridih in 1991. Early life Binod Bihari Mahato was born on 23 September 1923 in Badadaha village in Baliapur division of Dhanbad district. His father was Mahendra Mahato and mother was Mandakini Devi. Kudmi Mahato
The Kudmi are a community in the states of Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha and Bihar of India. They were primarily agriculturalist. . Classification Kudmi were classified as a Notified Tribe by the British Raj under the terms of the Indian Succession Act introduced in 1865 as they have customary rules of succession. Subsequently, in 1913, they were classified as a Primitive tribe. Then they were omitted from the list of communities listed as tribes in the 1931 census. Again, they were omitted from the Scheduled Tribe list drawn up in 1950. In 2004, the Government of Jharkhand recommended that they should be listed as a Scheduled Tribe rather than Other Backward Class. The Tribal Research Institute of Government of India recommended against this proposal, claiming they are a sub-caste of the Kunbi and thus different to tribal people. Chhatradhar Mahato ( bn, ছত্রধর মাহাতো) (born 1964) is an Indian political activist and convict from Lalgarh, West Bengal. He was the convener of the ''Police Santrash Birodhi Janasadharaner Committee'' ( – PCAPA) during Lalgarh insurgency. He gained prominence following the Salboni blast in November 2008. Bhajahari Mahato (1911–2003) was an Indian politician belonging to Lok Sewak Sangha. He was elected thrice as a member of the Lok Sabha. Early life Mahato was born on 1911. He took part in Civil disobedience movement and August movement. He was arrested during the British Rule. He was sentenced to seven years in prison. Later, he was released in 1946. Abha Mahato (born 27 October 1964) is an Indian parliamentarian from Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. Personal life Mahato was born in Deoghar (then in Bihar state) in 1964. The Bedia are a community in India. They believe that they originally lived on Mohdipahar of Hazaribagh district and have descended from the union of Vedbansi prince with a Munda girl. The other view is that a section of the Kudmis were outcastes and came to be known as the Bedia or Wandering Kudmis.
