Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno ( ar, محمد إدريس ديبي إتنو; born 1 January 1984), also known as Mahamat Kaka, is a Chadian army general serving as the transitional List of heads of state of Chad, president of Chad. He is the son of the late Chadian President Idriss Déby. He gained power as the president of the Transitional Military Council (Chad), Transitional Military Council on 20 April 2021 when his father, Idriss Déby died in action while commanding troops in the 2021 Northern Chad offensive, Northern Chad offensive. He previously served as the second in-command of the military for the Chadian Intervention in Northern Mali (FATIM). Early and personal life Mahamat Déby is polygamous and has three wives. Abakar Sabon (also spelled Saboune or Sabone) was the leader of the Movement of Central African Liberators for Justice rebel group during the Central African Republic Bush War. Biography Born in Boda to a Chadian father and Central African mother, he was the former FACA captain. Sabon worked François Bozizé from 2002-2003 when he wanted to topple Ange-Félix Patassé. He was the main architect behind the rebels taking control of Bangui on 15 March 2003. After Bozize managed to topple Patasse, Sabon was appointed as special representative for the Ministry of Defense in January 2004. Zaghawa People
The Zaghawa people, also called Beri or Zakhawa, are a Sahelian Muslim ethnic group primarily residing in Fezzan North-eastern Chad, and western Sudan, including Darfur. Zaghawas speak the Zaghawa language, which is an eastern Saharan language. They are pastoralists, and a breed of sheep that they herd is called Zaghawa by the Arabs. They are nomadic and obtain much of their livelihood through herding cattle, camels and sheep and harvesting wild grains. It has been estimated that there are 307,000 Zaghawas. Names The Kanemite royal history, the Girgam, refers to the Zaghawa people as the Duguwa. 2021 Northern Chad Offensive
A military offensive in Northern Chad, initiated by the Chadian rebel group Front for Change and Concord in Chad (FACT), took place from 11 April to 9 May 2021. It began in the Tibesti Region in the north of the country following the 2021 Chadian presidential election. Chadian President Idriss Déby was killed during the offensive on 20 April 2021, and his son Mahamat Déby became acting President of Chad on the same day. A special presidential election is expected in 2022. The offensive ended in a Chadian military victory, though clashes continued in the country's north.
