Mahalaxmi, Mumbai
Mahalaxmi is an upscale, affluent neighbourhood in the city of Mumbai, India. It is known for Royal Western India Turf Club’s Mahalaxmi Racecourse with horse races every year having visitors from around the world. History Mahalaxmi Temple is one of the most famous temples in Mumbai. Built around 1785, the history of this temple is supposedly connected with the building of the Hornby Vellard. Supposedly, after portions of the sea-wall of the Vellard collapsed twice, the chief engineer, a Pathare Prabhu, dreamed of a Lakshmi statue in the sea near Worli. An underwater search recovered it and he subsequently constructed a temple for it. After this, the work on the Vellard was completed without any problems. Royal Western India Turf Club Ltd. (RWITC) is an exclusive Indian sports club for horse racing, established in 1800. Which runs the Mahalaxmi Racecourse in Mumbai and the Pune Race Course. History The Royal Western India Turf Club has a history spanning just over two centuries. It conducts racing at Mumbai, Mumbai's Mahalaxmi Racecourse (from November to April), including the Indian Derby in February and Pune (from July to October), while Delhi races under its Rules. Mahalaxmi Racecourse
The Mahalaxmi Racecourse is a horse racing track in Mahalaxmi neighbourhood of Mumbai. The track is oval shaped with straight chute, spread over approximately of open land in the heart of Mumbai city. It was created out of a marshy land known as Mahalakshmi Flats. Built in 1883 and modelled on the Caulfield Racecourse in Melbourne, it is spread over land facing the sea. The racecourse was originally donated by Sir Cusrow N Wadia and today it is on lease from the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) to Royal Western India Turf Club which runs the racecourse. The Grandstand, off the course, is a designated heritage structure. The racecourse is the only helipad open for civilian use in South Mumbai. Mahalakshmi Temple, Mumbai
The Mahalaxmi Temple is one of the most famous temples of the city of Mumbai, India. It is dedicated to Mahalakshmi the central deity of Devi Mahatmyam. The temple was built in 1831 by Dhakji Dadaji (1760–1846), a Hindu merchant. History Built around 1785, the history of this temple is supposedly connected with the building of the Hornby Vellard.
