Magugu
Magugu is an administrative ward in the Babati district of the Manyara Region of Tanzania. According to the 2002 census, the ward has a total population of 23,682. It is famous for its aromatic rice. Location Magugu lies north of Babati, west of Tarangire National Park, south of Madukani, and east of Kiru. Name Magugu is a Swahili word meaning 'weeds'. History Magugu grew out of an anti-sleeping sickness (African trypanosomiasis) settlement which was established in the early 1940s. In 1997, the area was described as being "dust and thorn scrub". Agriculture Among the crops grown for food are rice, sorghum, maize, beans, sweet potatoes and cassava. The cash crops are groundnuts, sunflowers, sugarcane, rice and cotton. Babati District
Babati Rural District is a district of Manyara Region of Tanzania, East Africa. The administrative capital of the district is Babati town, south of Arusha. The district covers an area of , a large proportion (640 km2) of which is covered by the water bodies of Lake Babati, Lake Burunge and Lake Manyara. The district is bordered to the north by Arusha Region, to the south east by Simanjiro District, to the south by Dodoma Region, to the south west by Hanang District, and to the north west by Mbulu District. Babati Urban District is located within the district. Babati District was established by dividing the then Hanang District into two districts - Babati and Hanang. The decision produced Babati District, which was officially documented in the Government Official Gazette No. 403 on 1 October 1985. Manyara Region
Manyara Region (''Mkoa wa Manyara'' in Swahili) is one of Tanzania's 31 administrative regions. The regional capital is the town of Babati. Babati
Babati, United States National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency is a town in Babati Urban District of Manyara Region of Tanzania. It is the administrative capital of Babati Urban District and Babati Rural District and also the administrative capital of Manyara Region. Babati town has developed from a mere village since Babati District was established in 1985. The new status boosted the town into rapid growth. The town is located at an altitude of near the end of Tarangire National Park and the base of Lake Babati, nestling under Mount Kwaraha. History The story is told that the town's name resulted from misunderstanding a Gorowa boy by a German roadwork supervisor. The boy did not understand the question about the location's name asked by the German. He pointed at an older man and said "Baba ti", meaning in his language "this is my father". Aromatic Rice
Aromatic rice is one of the Oryza sativa#Classification, major types of rice. It is a medium- to long-grained rice. It is known for its nut (fruit), nutty aroma and taste, which is caused by the chemical compound 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline. Varieties of aromatic rice include Ambemohar, Basmati, Jasmine rice, Jasmine, Sona Masuri, RiceTec, Texmati, Tulaipanji, Tulshimala, Wehani, Gobindobhog, Kalijira, Chinigura, Gobindobhog, Kali Mooch and wild Pecan rice. Tarangire National Park
Tarangire National Park is a national park in Tanzania's Manyara Region. The name of the park originates from the Tarangire River that crosses the park. The Tarangire River is the primary source of fresh water for wild animals in the Tarangire Ecosystem during the annual dry season. The Tarangire Ecosystem is defined by the long-distance migration of wildebeest and zebras. During the dry season thousands of animals concentrate in Tarangire National Park from the surrounding wet-season dispersal and calving areas.
