Maghull F.C.
Maghull Football Club are a football club based in Maghull, Merseyside, England. They are currently members of the and play at Old Hall Field. History Maghull were founded in 1921, and situated 8 miles north of Liverpool on the main A59 Preston Road, they played their home games at Deyes Lane, just one mile away from their present Old Hall Lane ground. They jointed the Lancashire Combination in 1972 and then the Cheshire County League six years later. During this time they reached the third round of the FA Vase. In 1984 they became one of the founder members of the North West Counties League and were North West Counties Division 2 Champions in 1993 but were not promoted due to ground grading issues. Maghull joined the West Cheshire League Division One for the 1999–2000 season and have played in Division One of that league ever since and have been runners-up twice – 2006–07 and 2010–11. Maghull
Maghull ( ) is a town and civil parish in Sefton, Merseyside (historically a part of Lancashire). The town is north of Liverpool and west of Kirkby. The area also contains Ashworth Hospital. Maghull had a population of 20,444 at the 2011 Census. Housing in the town is almost entirely a 20th-century settlement of semi-detached and detached housing although remains of the original town do exist. The town has had an elected council since the Local Government Act 1894 when the government set up a network of local governance across England. Following the Local Government Act 1974, the council changed its name from a parish to a town council. Etymology It has been proposed by Dr Eilert Ekwall that the name Maghull may have been derived from the Celtic word ''*magos'' referring to a plain or field, and the Old English ''halh'' referring to a corner or nook, giving the meaning of a "flat land in a bend". The North West Counties Football League is a football league in the North West of England. Since 2019–20, the league has covered the Isle of Man, Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Merseyside, Cumbria, northern Staffordshire, northern Shropshire, the far west of West Yorkshire, and the High Peak area of Derbyshire. In the past, the league has also hosted clubs from North Wales such as Caernarfon Town, Colwyn Bay and Rhyl. As from season 2018–19 the league increased from two, to three divisions: the Premier Division, at level nine (Step 5 in the NLS) in the English football league system, and two geographically separate Division Ones, North and South, at level ten (Step 6 in the NLS). The West Cheshire Association Football League (commonly known as the West Cheshire League) is an English football league in the county of Cheshire, which also includes teams from Merseyside. Its current principal sponsor is ''Carlsberg'', also sponsor of the South West Peninsula League. It has a Division One, Division Two and Division Three. Division One sits at step 7 (or level 11) of the National League System. The Football Association Challenge Vase, usually referred to as the FA Vase, is an annual football competition for teams playing in Steps 5 and 6 of the English National League System (or equivalently, tier 9 or 10 of the overall English football league system). For the 2017–18 season 619 entrants were accepted, with two qualifying rounds preceding the six proper rounds, semi-finals (played over two legs) and final to be played at Wembley Stadium.
