Mae Beavers
Mae Beavers (born December 11, 1947 in Millport, Alabama) is an American politician and public servant. A Republican, she was a member of the Tennessee Senate for the 17th district from 2003 until she resigned to run for governor in August 2017. The 17th district is composed of Cannon, Clay, DeKalb, Macon, Smith, and Wilson counties. Prior to becoming a state senator, Beavers was a state representative in the 99th through the 102nd General Assemblies. She was an unsuccessful candidate for Governor of Tennessee in the 2018 Tennessee gubernatorial election. Early life Mae Beavers was born on December 11, 1947, in Millport, Alabama. Tennessee's 17th Senate District
Tennessee's 17th Senate district is one of 33 districts in the Tennessee Senate. It has been represented by Republican Mark Pody since a 2017 special election to replace fellow Republican Mae Beavers. Geography District 17 covers rural and suburban Middle Tennessee to the east of Nashville, including all of Cannon, Clay, DeKalb, Macon, Smith, and Wilson Counties. Communities in the district include Mount Juliet, Lebanon, Smithville, Lafayette, Carthage, Woodbury, Celina, and Green Hill. The 2018 Tennessee gubernatorial election took place on November 6, 2018, to elect the next governor of Tennessee. Republican Bill Lee was elected with nearly 60% of the vote. Incumbent Republican Governor Bill Haslam was term-limited, and is prohibited by the Constitution of Tennessee from seeking a third consecutive term. Stacey Campfield (born June 8, 1968) is an American politician. He served as the Republican member of the Tennessee Senate from the 7th district, including Knoxville, Farragut, University of Tennessee, Powell and other parts of Knox County. The Sunlight Foundation was an American 501(c)(3) nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that advocated for open government. The organization was founded in April 2006 with the goal of increasing transparency and accountability in the United States Congress, the executive branch, and in state and local governments.
