Madis Kõiv
Madis Kõiv (5 December 1929, Tartu, Estonia – 24 September 2014, Tartu, Estonia) was an Estonian writer, philosopher and physicist. Education Kõiv attended school in Tartu after the second World War, graduating in the early 1950s with a degree in nuclear physics. Kõiv worked as a scientist and lecturer until 1991. Career as a playwright Kõiv always entertained a fascination with and love for literature. He wrote mostly for personal entertainment until the 1950s, when he became active in Estonian literary circles. His earliest published works were written with friends from these circles. He also wrote under a pseudonym for several years. His first published work was a play called ''Küüni täitmine'' (''Filling the Hay Barn'') written as a collaboration between Kõiv (using his pseudonym Jaanus Andreus Nooremb) and Hando Runnel in 1978. Madis Vihmann (born 5 October 1995) is a retired Estonian professional footballer who played as a centre back. He played in the Estonia national team in 19 matches. Club career Elva Vihmann came through the Elva youth system. He made his debut for the first team on 23 April 2011. Madis Üürike (born 12 February 1943) is an Estonian politician and economist. Madis Üürike was born in Tartu, Estonia. Following the re-occupation of Estonia by the Soviet Union, the family fled to Sweden, where Üürike was raised and educated. He received his master's degree in philosophy and economics at Stockholm University and studied for his doctorate at Uppsala University, where he also worked as a university lecturer. Madis Milling (24 November 1970 – 3 February 2022) was an Estonian actor, comedian, television and radio presenter, volunteer rescue worker, and politician. He was a member of the Estonian Defence League since 1990, in 2011 he was ranked as a lieutenant. Life and career In 1993, Milling graduated from Tallinn University as a theatre director. Madis Kalmet (born 27 January 1955, in Tallinn) is an Estonian actor and theatre director. In 1980 he graduated from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, Tallinn State Conservatory's Stage Art Department. 1980-1985 he was an actor, and 1985-1988 principal stage manager of Rakvere Theatre. 1989-1992 he was an actor, and 1992-1999 the theatre director of Endla Theatre. Madis Aruja (16 January 1936, Kuigatsi, Otepää Parish – 12 March 1995, Tallinn) was an Estonian conservationist, geographer and ski-orienteer. He worked in the fields of nature conservation and fish protection in the Estonian SSR before being fired for speaking out against the Estonian Soviet government. He was also an accomplished ski-orienteer. Biography In 1954, Aruja graduated from Jõgeva Secondary School and from the Department of Geography from the University of Tartu in 1963. From 1963, Aruja worked in the field of nature conservation and fish protection.
