Maddie Shevlin
Maddie Shevlin (born 21 September 1997) is an Australian rules footballer playing for in the AFL Women's (AFLW). Initially a tag rugby player, Shevlin played with the Gungahlin Jets in the AFL Canberra for two seasons before she was drafted by Melbourne in the 2017 AFLW rookie draft. Delisted after one season, she was re-drafted by Collingwood in the 2018 national draft and made her professional debut in round 3 of the 2019 season. After three seasons she was traded to Richmond. Junior career Shevlin originally played OzTag, a variant of rugby league, representing Australia in the sport. She took up football in 2016 after encouragement from her teacher. Shevlin began playing as a wing for the Gungahlin Jets in the AFL Canberra, but missed ten weeks of her first season after she dislocated her thumb in her first match. Gungahlin Jets Australian Football and Netball Club is an Australian sports club based in Gungahlin, Australian Capital Territory. The Australian rules football squad competes in the AFL Canberra first grade competition. The club has also a netball section. History The Gungahlin Jets were established in 1981 and entered the Monaro AFL division 2 competition in 1982. The club won the MAFL division 2 premiership in their first season. In 2014, the Liberal government withdrew a $66,000 grant for infrastructure funding provided by the previous Labor government, sparking a controversy. The Canberra Raiders are an Australian professional rugby league football club based in the national capital city of Canberra, Australian Capital Territory. The 2020 AFL Women's season was the fourth season of the AFL Women's competition, the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Australia. The Richmond Football Club, nicknamed the Tigers, is an Australian rules football team playing in the Australian Football League (AFL). In Australian sport, the best and fairest award recognises the player(s) adjudged to have had the best performance in a game or over a season for a given sporting club or competition. The awards are sometimes dependent on not receiving a suspension for misconduct or breaching the rules during that season. In the Australian Football League (AFL), the Brownlow Medal is awarded to the player who, provided he has not been suspended during the season, receives the most votes from the umpires for being the Fairest and Best player in games during the home and away season. In each game, the umpires award three votes to the player they judge to be the best afield in that game, two votes to the second-best player and one vote to the third-best player. VFL Women's
VFL Women's (VFLW) is the major state-level women's Australian rules football league in Victoria. The league initially comprised the six premier division clubs and the top four division 1 clubs from the now-defunct Victorian Women's Football League (VWFL), and has since evolved into what is also the second primary competition for AFL Women's (AFLW) clubs in Victoria.
