Madawaska Valley District High School
Madawaska Valley District High School (MVDHS) is a public high school situated in the village of Barry's Bay, Ontario. It is managed by Renfrew County District School Board. The school was opened in 1967, and has been operating as the public high school for the area ever since. M.V.D.H.S. is one of few high schools in the area, and as of 2012, is attended by 419 students, offering classes for students in grades 9-12. Some of the faculty are M.V. Graduates. In 2016 The Schools "Sherwood Public School" And "Madawaska Valley District High School" merged Into One Building. Identity The school colours are ''navy blue'' and ''brown''. The school's team name is "Wolves" and the new Mascot's name is "Waska". Barry's Bay
Barry's Bay is a community in the township of Madawaska Valley, Ontario, Canada, located two hours west of Ottawa on the shores of Kamaniskeg Lake, with a 2016 population of 1,259. History The Algonquin people named the area Kuaenash Ne-ishing, meaning beautiful bay. They used it as a rendezvous area, often hosting pow wow gatherings. The first efforts by the authorities of the British colony of Upper Canada to survey the waterways of this area came in 1847, when mapmaker James Haslett visited the area. Haslett noted the presence of an Irish farmer named William Byers living in the area, which may have been transcribed as "Barry's", giving the name Barry's Bay on Haslett's maps. Later residents developed the more colloquial back story that the first permanent structure was built in the late 1850s by a James Barry, a foreman for a lumber company, which the lumberjacks working under Barry took to calling Barry's Camp on the Bay, shortened to Barry's Bay. Larry Trader
Lawrence Jerome Trader (born July 7, 1963) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman. He played a handful of games at the NHL level, but is mostly known for his high scoring in the American Hockey League and overseas. He last played for Varese Hockey Club in Italy. He is the cousin of former NHL player Jim Peplinski. Professional career Minor league hockey Trader was born in Barry's Bay, Ontario. Growing up playing hockey, Trader developed into a mobile defenceman with a great shot from the blueline. He attracted a lot of attention playing Junior hockey for the Gloucester Rangers of the CJHL. In the 1979–80 season, Trader scored 33 points in 50 games as a defenceman and was named CJHL Best Midget-Age Player and invited to the All-star team. Benjamin Rivers
Benjamin Rivers is an independent game developer, illustrator, and comic artist. Biography Rivers was raised in Barry's Bay, Ontario, Canada and is now based out of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He is a member of the Hand Eye Society and a graduate of the Artsy Games Incubator program. Rivers has been an active and early member of the Toronto independent gaming scene and has been creating games for download and display since 2008. His games span multiple genres but often focus on similar visual styles. The various titles have appeared in ''Edge'' magazine, '' Game Developers Magazine'' and on ''Gamasutra'', GameSetWatch, Destructoid, '' Maisonneuve'', among others. The Ottawa Hospital (french: L'Hôpital d'Ottawa) is a hospital system in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Patricia Burchat (born 1958) is the Gabilan Professor of Physics at Stanford University who researches experimental particle physics and cosmology. She is interested in mapping dark matter in the universe, and understanding the nature of dark energy. She was named a fellow of the American Physical Society in 2001, and a Guggenheim Fellow in 2005. In 2013 she became a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
