Mackay Gas Turbine
The Mackay Gas Turbine is a remote-controlled power generator that is operated for short periods when customer demand for electricity is high. The gas turbine's ability to start quickly is important in ensuring a secure, reliable power supply for distribution to consumers. It was commissioned in 1975 and recently underwent refurbishment to ensure continued reliable operations. The Rolls-Royce Olympus 34 MW gas turbine runs on LFO and has black start capability. This power station is now decommissioned and off the National energy market (NEM). Fuel Oil
Fuel oil is any of various fractions obtained from the distillation of petroleum (crude oil). Such oils include distillates (the lighter fractions) and residues (the heavier fractions). Fuel oils include heavy fuel oil, marine fuel oil (MFO), bunker fuel, furnace oil (FO), gas oil (gasoil), heating oils (such as home heating oil), diesel fuel and others. The term ''fuel oil'' generally includes any liquid fuel that is burned in a furnace or boiler to generate heat ( heating oils), or used in an engine to generate power (as motor fuels). However, it does not usually include other liquid oils, such as those with a flash point of approximately , or oils burned in cotton- or wool-wick burners. In a stricter sense, ''fuel oil'' refers only to the heaviest commercial fuels that crude oil can yield, that is, those fuels heavier than gasoline (petrol) and naphtha. Fuel oil consists of long-chain hydrocarbons, particularly alkanes, cycloalkanes, and aromatics. Small molecules, such as t ...

Black Start
A black start is the process of restoring an electric power station or a part of an electric grid to operation without relying on the external electric power transmission network to recover from a total or partial shutdown.Knight, U.G. ''Power Systems in Emergencies - From Contingency Planning to Crisis Management '' John Wiley & Sons 2001 section 7.5 The 'Black Start' Situation Power to restart a generating station may come from an on-site standby generator. Alternatively, where a large amount of power is required, a tie-line to another generating plant may be used to start the facility. Once the main generating units are running, the electrical transmission network can be re-connected and electrical loads restored. Black-start power may be ensured by an agreement where a particular energy supplier is paid to make black start power available when required. Not all generating plants are suitable for providing black-start power to a network. Station service power Electrical g ...

List Of Power Stations In Queensland
This is a list of active power stations in Queensland, Australia. Candidates for this list must already be commissioned and capable of generating 1 MW or more of electricity. Queensland has a diverse range of power generating types. Coal fired These fossil fuel power stations burn coal to power steam turbines that generate some or all of the electricity they produce. * Gladstone scheduled for closure in 2035. * Tarong scheduled for closure in 2036. * Callide B scheduled for closure in 2028. * Stanwell scheduled for closure in 2046. Gas turbine These gas turbine power stations use gas combustion to generate some or all of the electricity they produce. Combined cycle plants include an Open Cycle Gas Turbine, plus a Heat Recovery Steam Generator that uses waste heat from the gas turbine to make steam to drive a Steam Turbine. Gas (reciprocating) These power stations use gas combustion in reciprocating engines to generate some or all of the electricity they produ ...

Natural Gas-fired Power Stations In Queensland
Nature, in the broadest sense, is the physical world or universe. "Nature" can refer to the phenomena of the physical world, and also to life in general. The study of nature is a large, if not the only, part of science. Although humans are part of nature, human activity is often understood as a separate category from other natural phenomena. The word ''nature'' is borrowed from the Old French ''nature'' and is derived from the Latin word ''natura'', or "essential qualities, innate disposition", and in ancient times, literally meant "birth". In ancient philosophy, ''natura'' is mostly used as the Latin translation of the Greek word ''physis'' (φύσις), which originally related to the intrinsic characteristics of plants, animals, and other features of the world to develop of their own accord. The concept of nature as a whole, the physical universe, is one of several expansions of the original notion; it began with certain core applications of the word φύσις by pre-Socr ...

Buildings And Structures In Mackay, Queensland
A building, or edifice, is an enclosed structure with a roof and walls standing more or less permanently in one place, such as a house or factory (although there's also portable buildings). Buildings come in a variety of sizes, shapes, and functions, and have been adapted throughout history for a wide number of factors, from building materials available, to weather conditions, land prices, ground conditions, specific uses, prestige, and aesthetic reasons. To better understand the term ''building'' compare the list of nonbuilding structures. Buildings serve several societal needs – primarily as shelter from weather, security, living space, privacy, to store belongings, and to comfortably live and work. A building as a shelter represents a physical division of the human habitat (a place of comfort and safety) and the ''outside'' (a place that at times may be harsh and harmful). Ever since the first cave paintings, buildings have also become objects or canvasses of much artistic ...
