Stanwell Corporation
Stanwell Corporation is a Queensland government-owned corporation. It is the state's largest electricity generator and Australia’s third-largest greenhouse gas emitter. Stanwell own and operate a portfolio of electricity generation assets in Queensland including two of the youngest and most efficient coal-fired power stations in Australia – Stanwell Power Station in Rockhampton and Tarong North Power Station in the South Burnett. The business employs approximately 800 people across its various sites in Queensland. The two ministers responsible for Stanwell are the Treasurer of Queensland and Energy Minister. Toora Wind Farm
Toora Wind Farm is a wind power station at Toora in South Gippsland, Victoria, Australia. It is located north of Wilsons Promontory and 150 km south-east of Melbourne. The wind farm is on a ridge overlooking the town of Toora. Toora has 12 wind turbines, each of 1.75 MW rated capacity, with a total generating capacity of 21 MW of electricity. Vestas Wind Systems completed the power station in 2002. In November 2007, Transfield Services Infrastructure Fund acquired the wind farm from the Government of Queensland. Coal Refuse
Coal refuse (also described as coal waste, rock, slag, coal tailings, waste material, rock bank, culm, boney, or gob) is the material left over from coal mining, usually as tailings piles or spoil tips. For every tonne of hard coal generated by mining, 400 kilograms of waste material remains, which includes some lost coal that is partially economically recoverable. Coal refuse is distinct from the byproducts of burning coal, such as fly ash. Piles of coal refuse can have significant negative environmental consequences, including the leaching of iron, manganese, and aluminum residues into waterways and acid mine drainage. The runoff can create both surface and groundwater contamination. The piles also create a fire hazard, with the potential to spontaneously ignite. Tarong Energy
Tarong Energy was an electricity generation company in Australia. It was fully owned by the Queensland Government, and had a portfolio of generating sites using thermal coal and hydroelectric power in Queensland. Following a review by the Treasurer of Queensland of the state's electricity sector in 2010, the assets of Tarong Energy were split between Stanwell Corporation and CS Energy on 1 July 2011. Tarong Energy as an entity became a subsidiary of Stanwell Corporation. The restructure was made to save costs. The company supplied roughly one quarter of Queensland's electricity supply. Emu Downs Wind Farm
The Emu Downs Wind Farm () is a 79.2 MW wind farm in Western Australia. It was a 50:50 joint development between Griffin Energy and Stanwell Corporation. The site is approximately 200 kilometres north of Perth, near Cervantes. Construction of the $180 million project commenced in November 2005, and the project was commissioned in October 2006. Windy Hill Wind Farm
Windy Hill Wind Farm is a wind power station near Ravenshoe on the Atherton Tableland, Queensland, Australia. It has 20 wind turbines with a generating capacity of 12 MW of electricity, providing enough power for about 3,500 homes. The cost of the project was A$20 million. It was the second wind farm to be constructed in Queensland after the 0.45Mw station on Thursday Island (1997).
