Macintosh Ukrainian Encoding
Mac OS Ukrainian is a character encoding used on Apple Macintosh computers prior to Mac OS 9 to represent texts in Cyrillic script which include the letters ‹ Ґ› and ‹ґ›, including the Ukrainian alphabet. It is a variant of the original Mac OS Cyrillic encoding. Code points 162 (0xA2) representing the character ‹¢› and 182 (0xB6) representing the character ‹∂› were redefined to represent ‹Ґ› and ‹ґ›, respectively. Since Mac OS 9, ‹Ґ› and ‹ґ› have been included in the Macintosh Cyrillic encoding. FreeDOS calls it code page 58627. Codepage layout Each character is shown with its equivalent Unicode code point. Extended ASCII
Extended ASCII is a repertoire of character encodings that include (most of) the original 96 ASCII character set, plus up to 128 additional characters. There is no formal definition of "extended ASCII", and even use of the term is sometimes criticized, because it can be mistakenly interpreted to mean that the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) had updated its standard to include more characters, or that the term identifies a single unambiguous encoding, neither of which is the case. The ISO standard ISO 8859 was the first international standard to formalise a (limited) expansion of the ASCII character set: of the many language variants it encoded, ISO 8859-1 ("ISO Latin 1")which supports most Western European languages is best known in the West. MacCyrillic
Mac OS Cyrillic is a character encoding used on Apple Macintosh computers to represent texts in the Cyrillic script. The original version lacked the letter Ґ, which is used in Ukrainian, although its use was limited during the Soviet era to regions outside Ukraine. The closely related MacUkrainian resolved this, differing only by replacing two less commonly used symbols with its uppercase and lowercase forms. The euro sign update of the Mac OS scripts incorporated these changes back into MacCyrillic. ASCII ( ), an acronym for American Standard Code for Information Interchange, is a character encoding standard for representing a particular set of 95 (English language focused) printable character, printable and 33 control character, control characters a total of 128 code points. Character Encoding
Character encoding is the process of assigning numbers to graphical character (computing), characters, especially the written characters of human language, allowing them to be stored, transmitted, and transformed using computers. The numerical values that make up a character encoding are known as code points and collectively comprise a code space or a code page. Early character encodings that originated with optical or electrical telegraphy and in early computers could only represent a subset of the characters used in written languages, sometimes restricted to Letter case, upper case letters, Numeral system, numerals and some punctuation only. Apple Macintosh
Mac is a brand of personal computers designed and marketed by Apple Inc., Apple since 1984. Mac OS 9
Mac OS 9 is the ninth and final major release of the classic Mac OS operating system for Macintosh computers, made by Apple Computer. Introduced on October 23, 1999, it was promoted by Apple as "The Best Internet Operating System Ever", highlighting Sherlock 2’s Internet search capabilities, integration with Apple's free online services known as iTools and improved Open Transport networking. While Mac OS 9 lacks protected memory and full pre-emptive multitasking, lasting improvements include the introduction of an automated Software Update engine and support for multiple users. Ukrainian Alphabet
The Ukrainian alphabet () is the set of letters used to write Ukrainian, which is the official language of Ukraine. It is one of several national variations of the Cyrillic script. It comes from the Cyrillic script, which was devised in the 9th century for the first Slavic literary language, called Old Slavonic. In the 10th century, Cyrillic script became used in Kievan Rus' to write Old East Slavic, from which the Belarusian, Russian, Rusyn, and Ukrainian alphabets later evolved.
